Whew ok good.

I'm still not sure on the DCL thing. I lost $800 when I cancelled.. I know the percentage isn't much, but I hope that Disney would pay her something from that.
When you outright cancel we don't get paid no matter who it was through.

The cruise line has much more stringent cancellation policies that the resorts and parks for the obvious reasons.

Wow. That makes me really angry. She fought hard for me for a week to get that money applied to the next cruise. I booked another for same dates in 2017...but they would not credit the money towards it since I was 71 days out. It was frustrating.

Yeah, whenever I try to add the Dining Plan without tickets on the website, the option is blanked out and I'm told that I've got to get a Magic Your Way package to get the DP. But y'all are saying that if I call Disney, or a travel agent, that they might be able to do it for me?

Also, if I get park hopper tickets from a third party, will I be able to hook them up with Magic Pass?

Love a little Disney every day!! ;)
You can't. Also you have to plan to pay for tip at any sit down restaurants - the dining plan doesn't include that anymore.

Yes you can get the dining plan without purchasing tickets from Disney. You have to call for it though (can't book online) and it's called a ticketless package. You book a room only with a discount or not (usually they have an offer for a % off the rooms at all times if the offer is not sold out) then they can add the dining without tickets. Anyone can do this and not just DVC or AP holders. :)

Thank you! I'll have to call and give it a try. If I can get the cheaper tickets plus the dining plan that's a win-win for me! I was also planning on doing the Target Red Card/Disney Gift Card thing with a DisneyVacationAccount to save more money.

You'll definitely be able to do it. Toughest part is deciding where to stay, you've got that covered! Have fun planning!!

So rather than start a whole new thread, I just thought I'd ask... When should I expect to get my magic bands? I'm booking my vacation thru DisneyWorld.com (though I'll be getting tix via a 3rd party). I selected the colors for my Magic Bands on MyDisneyExperience. Do I have to pay for the magic bands or are they a part of the package?

They come free with your resort room booking. They won't get shipped out until 30 days or less before your trip. :)

That is what we do. We use gift cards we get from Target and use them to buy our food purchases. We also do the Vacation Account. It is a great way to budget for a vacation. The best part is we walk away from the vacation with no debt.

At the following website you can enter in the restaurants at which you will be dining, and it will estimate the price of your meal, and compare the price to the dining plan.

www.distripplanner.com

I recently "tested" the website on my trip in December 2016, and the out of pocket pricing was pretty close to what I actually paid -- I was surprised. My family of 5 (2 adults, 3 kids) saved $256 by NOT using the plan, but that was mostly because my kids do not eat a lot, and at quick service restaurants we would buy one pizza, or one basket of chicken fingers and 2 or 3 kids would share it... where as on the plan, they would each get their own pizza/chicken basket.

I find that the dining plan only benefits my family when we go to character dining for every table service meal, however you end up paying a lot more than the actual dining plan cost due to the amounts of the tips for the character dining restaurants being significantly higher. The dining plan also gives you "free" desserts, which are usually large for my kids, so we end up stuffing ourselves with food that we do not necessarily need (the free desserts may have gone away though on the 2017 dining plan)

Whether we get the dining plan or not depends on our length of stay.

If we stay less than 3 days, we don't get the dining plan, but if we stay 3 - 5 days, then we get the Disney Dining Plan (1 QS, 1 TS, 2 snacks). If we are staying longer than 5 days, we get the Deluxe Dining Plan. I know it is a lot of food in general but not the way we typically use it. We are foodies so we like the Signature dining options. What we do is eat a breakfast, snack for lunch and have a Signature Dining for dinner (using our TS credit from lunch and dinner together). Usually one day/6 vacation days or 2 days/8 vacations do we actually eat three meals a day and that is because those dinners are at Raglan Roads which is only a 1 credit meal. If we for some reason have meal credits left over then we will either use the credits for lunch and/or dinners to go to eat on the drive home or while sitting at the airport waiting...or...we will eat lunch somewhat to use a credit and tell the CM to use our 1 or 2 remaining credits on the next person that comes through to check out. It is our way of being nice to others.

So, which plan is right for you depends on what you are after and the type of food person you are.

To open your "real" question, the meal plans are based on the number of night stayed at the resort so in your situation, if would 6.
