I have read up on the Disney dining plan some but not a ton and i really DO NOT get it. Can someone please explain it to me!! Any info will be appreciated and should i get it or not?? Thanks :veryconfu

Dining Plan or Not

I had it last year w/the free dining promotion and it was fantastic. We have it again free this year as well... Would I pay for it? I think so... It is worth the money... and it is nice to have things paid for in advance... including gratuities...
I like not having to worry about whether we can swing the cost of eating at a nice restaurant each day... and I don't have to worry about whether I want to order the most expensive item on the menu... I can if I want to do so.
I can pack up my desert to take with me.... And I enjoy that I can "splurge" and get my entire family Mickey Bars or some other ice cream on a hot day at Animal Kingdom... For a family of 5, those treats are not a daily occurence as they are quite costly out of pocket...
Also...sometimes we travel with family members who are known to be "cheap." Nothing kills a good time when we have reservations for a nice restaurant that we want to eat at....and said persons will look at the menu and say, "Oh, this place is kind of spendy..." and try to talk you out of wanting to eat at your favorite restaurant...
This year we have 2 adults and 2 children on the plan...our littles is only 2 and it is for ages 3 and up.... but we expect to have plenty of extra food to share with him between his brother and sister's kids' meals and our grown up meals and appetizers/etc.
I think if you look at some menu prices and figure what you'll spend each day...you can easily rack up $38 worth of value and break even... but don't forget gratuities for the sit down meal.... To me, it's like you get the snack and the gratuities free...
