Dining Plan menu different?

Our family has been tossing the Dining Plan idea around for our next trip but recently heard something that didn't sound too good.

I was told by a friend who recently returned from a trip (without the dining plan) that at LeCellier the hostess who seated them asked them if they were on the Dining Plan. After they responded "no", she told them "well then you get the good menu then". My friend took this literally and thought there are two menus depending on whether you had purchased the dining plan or not. I have never heard of this but thought this just might be a hostess indicating her dislike for the dining plan through a little sarcastic humor? Anyway, I knew you guys would know if there really is two menus for each participating restaraunt. Thanks.

As far as I'm aware there is only one menu at any of Disneys restaurants. The DDP may restrict some of your choices without having to pay extra

We just got back from our trip on Saturday. There are not separate menus for people on the dining plan. When we were at Raglan Road for dinner we were asked if we were on a dining plan. As we were not on the DDP this trip we said no. Our server responded with "Great, that means you can order anything you want on the menu". We laughed because we knew he meant that we were free to order appetizer, entree, dessert or any combination of things we wanted. I think they ask because on the basic plan you're only entitled to entree/dessert/non-alcoholic beverage and anything else is OOP. On the Deluxe plan the appetizer is included. Remember, they do spend a lot of their time explaining what people can and can't have on the various plans. We have travelled to Disney with and without the plan. We have never had different menus. At Rose and Crown this past trip, we got exactly the same menu off the plan as we did on the basic dining plan last December. So not to worry there are not two separate menus.

I have not head of a separate menu either. During times of free dining Disney has been known to alter restaurant menus (ie subing sirloin for fillet at Le Cellier) but I have never heard of 2 separate menus.

When we went last year we were on the dining plan but my sister in law, who joined us for part of the trip, was not on the dining plan. At no point were we given different menu's.

Honestly, it would be too complicated for restaurants to have two sets of menus and somehow be able to keep it secret. They ask because they have to know what plan, if any, you're on so they can advise what's included and what you'll have to pay OOP for.

If they didn't ask and you ordered something you don't get included, arguments could ensue and they don't want that.

Exactly.

It's not to give anyone an inferior menu or inferior service.

It's important information that lets them serve you better.

Another Question about the dining plan

My sister and I have the dining plan and sometimes like to split an appetizer. Since that's not part of the plan can we just charge it to the room?

Also, if my 8 year old neice wanted to get an appetizer or something from the adult menu instead of something off the kids menu, can we pay for that and save her dining credit for later or must she order from the kids menu. She's a pretty adventurous eater...doesn't eat alot but she's up for trying different types of food so we like to encourage that and the kids meals tend not to be too adventurous

Yes, anything not included in DDP can be billed to the room. And if your niece wants to order from the adult menu she can instead of using a credit. The credits don't 'have' to be used at any meal.
