Dining Plan Help

Okay, I am soi lost with the Disney Dining Plan. I've done search after search on both here and Google for help, but I still can't seem to grasp how the Disney Dining Plan actually works. My wife, one year old son and I are going for seven nights, 8 days with 7 day base tickets in August. As of now, we haven't added the dining plan, but we've already booked our package. Can we even add the dining plan on after we've already booked our package? If so, is the number of days the package is based on in relationship to the number of days we are staying, the number of nights we are staying, or the number of days our theme park tickets are for. In other words, if I can add a dining plan, will it be for seven days since we're staying seven nights and have seven day park tickets, or will it be eight days since we're staying for eight days? I'm so confused! Any help would be so appreciated!

Thanks!

Yes, you can add the DDP to your package even though you have already booked it. I have read that it can be added as late as 3 days before you check in, but I'm not 100% sure on that. It is based on the number of nights that you are staying in a Disney resort. It is not tied in anyway to your tickets. So if you are staying 7 nights, you would have 7 table service, 7 counter service, and 7 snacks per person for you and your wife. (if that is the plan you chose) Your 1 year old is too young for the plan and would share with you. Hope this helps!

Oh man, that is a huge relief!! We've been trying to find out info about the plan, but can't seem to locate definitive answers anywhere. There's such a huge difference in paying for 7 days of the meal plan vs. paying for 8 days for the meal plan, especially at essentially $80 a day. Even though our 1 year old is exempt from the plan, he eats more than my wife! So we'll definitely be taking advantage of the buffets and the meal plan. But with our flight scheduling, paying for 8 days didn't seem to make sense.

Thank you so much for the info!

You are quite welcome!

We took our kids for the first time when our son was 1. (our daughter was 3) It was such a fun age! He loved the characters. He was especially fascinated with the fur characters' noses. I hope you guys have a great time!

Hi!

The number of days of meals is associated with the number of nights you stay at a resort hotel. So for your upcoming visit, we have 7 nights stay - we have 7 days of meals. If you choose the regular dining plan, you would have 7 snacks, 7 quick service meals, and 7 table service meals, per person. You do not need to use one of each per day. If you want to eat two snacks on one day, you can. If you want to use 2 of your Table Service meals for Cinderellas Round Table, you can do that. IMO, the best way to plan the meals is sit down with a calendar and map out where you are going to be when. And then decide how you want to use your meals.

Yes, you can add the dining plan on - but you have to do at least 72 hours before check in - after that, you can't add on.

To get the most bang for your buck - buffets are good - Boma is a great choice for non character meal - but i'm a fan of the character meals myslef! With this plan, to save on out of pocket expenses, the easiet meal to do in the room is bfast. Or the cheapest meal to pay out of pocket is also bfast. Then use your TS and QS for lunch and dinner.

Have a great trip!!

What happens if I don't want the plan for the length of stay?

Is it possible to buy the plan for less than the number of nights of our package? We are staying in villas with the plan to only eat 1 meal/day out in the parks or at a resort. That being the case, I just don't find the dining plan to be worth the cost. My MIL however likes the idea of the meals being prepaid...

No. You must buy the plan for the number of nights you are staying. Also, everyone on the reservation has to have the DDP if you choose to get it. Meaning, if MIL wants it, and you are all on the same resort reservation, you all must get it.

Could you leave her home? :lookaroun

Kidding!! :animwink:

I have heard mixed answers to the appetizers on the TS portion of the meal plan.

I have heard that you no longer get an appetizer with your TS, but according to the 2009 brochure, appetizers are listed as being included.

My question is...are they? One CM says yes and another says no.

Can anyone shed any light?

For the regular Dining Plan, only Children get an "appetizer" as part of their Table Service meal.

For the Deluxe Dining Plan, everyone gets an appetizer.

Stupid me! :hammer:

It clearly says ages 3-9 only for the appetizer. I really need to get more sleep. As a matter of fact, I am going to do that now. :lookaroun
