Dining Dilemma

Now I am feeling like I need to go to dinner here some other time during the trip. Do I trade a spice road table or teppen edo dinner for a Yak and Yeti?
No way! Yak & Yeti is good, but it’s a Landry’s chain restaurant very much like Rainforest or T-Rex in level of theming and quality. The first time we went there, we were expecting something more unique and were disappointed. As long as you know what you’re getting, it’s perfectly fine though. A lot of people swear they have the best burger at WDW.

Would you do Kona Cafe, Grand Floridan Cafe, Skipper Canteen or Liberty Tree Tavern?

You said you're staying at the Poly? I haven't been to Kona Cafe for dinner since they changed their menu but it's one of my favorite restaurants on property. So much depends on the weather. If it's too hot, then I can't have a big meal no matter where it is and then go out walking for hours. I would probably do a dinner at one of the quick service locations at either Poly or GF and then go to the parks. That way, I would still have room for the popcorn and other treats that are included in the price of After Hours. I like Liberty Tree for dinner but the food is just too heavy for me that time of year.

Happy April Everyone!

I have my dream vacation planned for May 1-9 and Disney threw a wrench in my plans by offering Disney After Hours on May 2nd at the Magic Kingdom. My plan for that day currently was to spend the whole day at the Animal Kingdom and we have a 6:15 dinner reservation at Yak and Yeti which I was looking forward to. Now that I have purchased After Hours we plan on being in the Magic Kingdom till 1:00am and will take a resort break in the afternoon. We are staying at the Poly so is it worth it to hike back to the Animal Kingdom for Dinner to then go to MK after for Disney After Hours? My alternative plan was to eat at SKipper Canteen. They have a 6:35pm reservation. What would everyone choose for dinner? I am open to other ideas as well if you have them. It is our 2nd day at the resort so I don't know want to kill ourselves.
I would leave MK and just grab something at the resort. I will be honest, sometimes folks get caught up here on eating table service meals like they are some amazing experience. Now for some that might be the case but you are not gonna tell me that a steak dinner at Mortons cant beat 90 percent of the WDW table service restaurants.
If I were you, head back to the hotel from MK hit the pool, grab a bite at the pool bar and then enjoy the party that night.

So we made a Skipper Canteen dining reservation at 6:35pm since it was the latest one available that we could snag at this point and after judging everyone's opinions. We have a table credit to burn at this point for this day so I figured we would use it here, and the menu doesn't look too heavy.

Since the dinner is before the start of the After Hours do we have to go back to the main gate and get our wristbands or can we get them when we enter the park at around 6:00?

You'll get the wristbands when you enter.

A word on Skippers... I really like the food but in my experience (one lunch and one dinner), service can be VERY slow. Plan accordingly.

They'll have wristband stations within the park so you won't need to go back to the entrance. They set up before 7PM, but I don't remember how long before.

I thought you got them right when you enter.

Might be wrong.
Pretty sure they do both. But they don't start distribution at the gates until 7PM because that's when your hard ticket gets you in without using a park admission. The stations inside the park are for people who choose to use an admission or are AP holders and are already in the park.

How long are you thinking? Should I move up the reservation? If my reservation is at 6:30 I am hoping to be done by 8?

I thought hard ticket got you in at 4.

EDIT: Disregard.

My email confirmation says 7pm.
MNSSHP and MVMCP tickets get you in at 4 for the party that starts at 7. This event doesn't start until later, thus early entry gets bumped later as well.

Is this a typo below: I was looking at my confirmation for my Disney After hours on May 2nd and saw this posted in numerous places. Is the park going to be opened till 10:00 or 9:00?

The park closes at 9pm for everyone else but it takes time to clear out the parks. Then the After Hours event will be exclusive at 10pm. Those without the lanyard will be required to leave.

Awesome! I thought the three hours started at 9:00 so in essence we get 4 hours to play!

More than that since you can get into MK at 7pm and get Fastpasses from 7-9pm.

This deal gets better and better! Now I am really tempted to do the Hollywood Studios After Hours event on May 4th.. Not sure if the wife is going to go for me dropping another $260.

That's why I don't like having an ADR so close to 7pm. A dining reservation after 6pm will cut into that park time. The last time I had a dinner reservation at 6pm during a busy season, we didn't finish until 7:30. So we either do an early ADR close to 5pm near the park we're going to for the event or have a quick service meal within the park. Anything to maximize the $$$$ and park time :) Plus, the cost savings of having a QS over a TS can be applied to the cost of the event ticket. That makes the costs a little bit more palatable to my husband :)
