Dining Attire Question

I was just wondering, as I know some restaurants are more casual then others, if any of the places I’m eating at for my next trip have a rule about being at least business causal or the like. I’m just trying to plan in my head if some places will require us to go back and change clothes before eating.

The places in bold are the ones I’m really mostly wondering about. I’ve been to the San Angel Inn before and I know that the 50’s Prime Time isn’t anything fancy already. I’ve also eaten at Le Cellier, though we were already semi dressed up from an earlier event so I’m unsure if that means I’d have to go change for that restaurant as well next time – if we go there.

San Angel Inn (dinner)
50's Prime Time Cafe (dinner)
Shutters (dinner)
Nine Dragons (dinner) **But I'm thinking I want to change this to Le Cellier.
Hollywood Brown Derby (early dinner/Fantasmic package)
Concourse Steakhouse (late dinner)
Cinderella's Royal Table (breakfast)
L'Originale Alfredo (lunch)

Thanks. :animwink:

At one time or another I have eaten in each of these restaurants (except Nine Dragons). Every time I was in "park attire" of a t-shirt with shorts and sneakers. As far as I have ever heard, there is only one place to eat on all of property where they actually have a dress code is at Victoria & Albert's in the Grand Floridian.

As said above, nothing on that list requires special attire. The only place on property I've ever heard of requiring smart dress is (I think) Victoria and Albert's at the Grand Floridian.

The places that now require business attire are a laugh and a half. I say this because I went to the Yachtsman Steak House in July and I had on shorts, sneakers and golf type shirt and so did most other people. There were few if any people that weren't wearing shorts. As long as you look presentable, you won't have a problem. I think they are just trying to avoid having people show up in beach bum attire.

What about shorts and tank top? Is that considered "Beach Bum" attire?

What you were wearing was acceptable.

I did see a group come in in shorts & sweaty t shirts...red faced from the heat
and smelling like they had forgotten to shower that morning :lookaroun... they were taken to the very back of the restaurant and shoved in a corner by some tall plants. :zipit:

No tank tops...

The restaurants are defining “business casual” as dress shorts, pants, jean pants, collared shirts, blouses and sweaters. Hats, swimsuits, swimsuit coveralls, tank tops, T-shirts, torn clothing and flip-flops are not permitted.

Now I was wearing a long shirt a tank with a sweater on top (sweater set) as were my girls, but we all had expensive leather thong style dress sandles on and nobody said anything to us.

I would go with a polo shirt and a nice pair of shorts and you should be fine.

I have worn flip flops into every restauarant I have ever eaten at in WDW except for V and A and nobody has ever said anything.

Of course, my usual attire is always a polo and shorts. They really don't want tank tops with sweat pouring off of you at the restaurants, particularly during dinner hours, but even then, they will not turn you away.

WDW cast members at the restaurants all know that you are there spending your hard earned cash while on vacation and they aren't going to say a thing about the way you are dressed. They have been instructed not to. On the other hand, that does not mean they have to give you a good table with a window view either.

Ron,
Thanks for the flip flop comment. I'm a big flip flop guy and i wear them pretty much all the time with some fairly dressy outfits and have never had a problem. I do put on socks (and shoes!) for Victoria & Alberts but no place else.

Thanks for all the comments and answers back, I guess I am probably more so paranoid about the Concourse Steakhouse one.

I was planning on wearing a tank top that has beading all along the top and bottom – so it’s a decently nice top, with a nice summer skirt. So even though I thought I’d look ‘nice’, now I’m not too sure because of the whole “no tank tops’ rule. Then again I could always make sure to bring along a light sweater to toss on in the event they truly dislike naked arms. ;)

As for flip-flops, I can understand that somewhat, as sometimes the basic flip-flops people run around with..well. .can start to look old and nasty.

I've worn a tank top and a peasant skirt with beaded or pretty flipflops to Jiko, Artist Point and the California Grill. I've never had a problem, and have in fact gotten compliments on what I was wearing in two of the three places.

Bottom lin: If it looks like you made a bit of an effort and you don't smell like a yak, I don't think you'll have any problems. Don't stress about it!!!

So some restaraunts prefer that you don't wear tank tops, but will not turn you away if you do. So, here are the places we plan to eat at next year, so can someone tell me for sure if tank tops are strictly not allowed (as opposed to just frowned on)?

Garden Grill
Coral Reef
Le Cellier
Alfredo's
Chef Mickey's
50's Prime Time Cafe
Tony's Town Square

Basically, my park attire is shorts, tank top and tennis shoes. How will this attire fare in these places?

Nobody should show up anywhere like that.

Why? The people who run these restaraunts have to know, and should understand, that people are spending all day in these theme parks. Naturally, they're not gonna be wearing their Sunday best.

All of your restaurants are located within the parks, except Chef Mickey's, which is a casual restaurant... and not subject to the dress code of business casual.

**
  • Jiko (Animal Kingdom Lodge)
  • Flying Fish (BoardWalk)
  • California Grill (Contemporary)
  • Citricos and Narcoossee's (Grand Floridian)
  • Artist Point (Wilderness Lodge)
  • Yachtsman Steakhouse (Yacht Club)
As I said earlier, those not appropriately dressed (at least the ones I saw) were not turned away, but spoken to and quickly ushered to a less than desirable spot away from the general traffic.
