Dining at Downtown Disney

Hello all;

We are staying at PO-Riverside at the end of July and have one evening planned to go through Downtown Disney. Can anyone recommend a restaurant for dinner. My wife and I have two kids, ages 7 and 2. I am leaning towards House of Blues but am looking for suggestions. It will have to be some place to take the kids too as well.

We have eaten at the Rainforest Cafe in the Mall of America and Philadelphia so would prefer to try something different.

Thanks,

With children that young, I would suggest Rainforest Cafe or Planet Hollywood. Both of them have a better atmosphere for children. The menu at the House of Blues is a little rough on young ones too. PH and RC have better kiddie menus.

Fulton Crab House and Portobello Yacht Club are good places too. Crab House is obviously more seafood. Portobello is Italian cuisine. Both are excellent as well. Both are listed as moderate to expensive tho but they are well worth the money.

With kids that young you really can only go to Rainforest Cafe or Planet Hollywood.

The other restaurants are very grown up, and probably will not work for your family.

We always enjoy Captain Jacks ( I think that is the name.) It is located towards the water from RFC and has great food. We took a 9 month old last December and had a great meal. It is nice and quiet but not so formal that kids would be out of place. It is also right on the water and has a great view of all of DTD. It never is too crowded and the food is really good.

Portobello Yacht Club is my favorite place to eat... we always eat there 1x during each trip... but personally, with young children, I would agree that RFC or Planet Hollywood are your best bets... I've never been to Captain Jack's and I can't place it in my mind... we'll be there the end of july too! c-ya! :)

One of my favorite restaurants (not only at Downtown Disney but at WDW) has to be Wolfgag Puck Grand Cafe (the one that is on the west side), but for kids, I agree with the Rainforest idea.

The kids will probably like the Rainforest the most because of the atmosphere. The animals and plants are everywhere and they will like the selection of food.

But for the money you are going to spend there you might just want to do dinner at a resort or something. I recommend (like I always do) Ohana or Whispering Canyon Cafe. In this case I think Ohana in the Polynesian will be your best bet.

From Port Orleans all you have to do is hop a bus from the resort to the Magic Kingdom. Then take the monorail to the Polynesian. Then after that if you want you can take the direct bus from the Polynesian to Downtown Disney.

Ohana is located in the Great Ceremonial House at the Polynesian Resort. The meal is all you can eat and is 21.99 an adult and 9.99 a child. The entertainment is great, and games are played for the kids. All the food is cooked over the world's largest firepit.

I definately think you should consider Ohana for your restaurant choice. I promise you will not be dissapointed.

My favorite restaurant in DD would be Wolfgang Puck's. I do agree that the kids would probably enjoy Rainforest or Planet Hollywood for atmosphere. However for the food - I wouldn't recommend Planet Hollywood. I think the kids would enjoy Puck's too. They have some great pizza as well as other California favorites.

I wouldn't take them to Fulton's Crab House either. It's good and all, but for two of us it cost us $100 for dinner - imagine adding kids to that. It's a little nicer place, too and mainly all seafood - not really kid food.

House of Blues is just a little spicer than most kids like. Bongos is a different kind of food (more for adults). And you know how most kids don't like to try new types of food.

Of course, there's the favorite among all kids right there too - McDonalds. Ha, Ha!!!
