Dining at different WDW resorts?

Are there any restaurants that you can only dine at if you're a guest of the hotel? Or are you able to eat at all the restaurants no matter which resort you're staying at?

There's only one that I can think of that restricts access to only those staying in the resort, and that's the Top of the World Lounge in Bay Lake Tower. Moreover, you need to be a Vacation Club member with a valid club ID to even get to the top floor. I've read some conflicting reports on the ID part, but it seems to be the case most of the time, at least. Aside from that, though, you can go to any restaurant on property. As the others have already stated, you will find most of the best restaurants in the resorts, so go nuts.

I am not big on TS at the resorts but I always make a resort loop to eat in the food courts. However, as of late many of the resort specific food is slowly going away and being replaced with standard fare. But I try to get over to Port Orleans for the beignets and take a nice ride along the river to DTD.

There are many resort Table Serve restaurants that I love to eat at. Between there and World Showcase, I am usually a content eater ;)

As a foodie, I could spend an entire vacation just going to each resort and eating the food!

There are no restrictions to dining at resorts that I know of (I'm local and have never stayed on property).

For me, the best places to eat are when you have good food along with either an amazing view or something that makes the meal a complete experience. Not only do the resort restaurants serve very good food (especially the signature restaurants), my wife and I also take advantage of walking around the hotel property, taking in the sights and shops and really making an experience out of the visit. For instance, going to Jiko or Sanaa at the Animal Kingdom Lodge makes for a wonderful trip to see the lodge itself, the animals in the Savannah and enjoy the wonderful food there.

And it isn't always about fine dining either. The Contempo Cafe has some amazing cupcakes and baked goods, and how cool is it to sit in the main concourse of the Contemporary and watch the monorail come and go while eating?! On another night we ended up at Captain Cook's at the Polynesian and enjoyed Dole Whip while sitting outside enjoying the tropical atmosphere complete with torches-it was lovely!

While some places do have better food or a better atmosphere than others, we have not had a single bad meal anywhere at the resorts when we go to visit, and we are looking forward to dining at places we haven't eaten at yet.

And for the record, Top of the World isn't really a restaurant; but they've got an extremely limited menu in case you're there and are a little peckish. And the current menu I've found (as of September anyway) is much "simpler" than when I went a few years ago. Back then, I think they were still trying to give the lounge an air of sophistication, a place for grownups (it IS a lounge, after all) but where kids aren't shunned away. Slightly more elegant appetizers and light fare. Based on the new menu, I guess they've given up on the sophistication aspect of it, part of the TGIFridayization of America, I suppose.

Agree with what everyone is saying. We always hit the resorts for dining, especially the Grand Floridian which is a quick monorail ride from the MK and has tons of choices.

Some of our favorite restaurants are at the resorts. Definitely check some of them out if you get the chance. I had never eaten outside of the parks and DtD until a few years ago, and now resort dining has become a staple of our trip. It adds something new. :)

I could not agree more about dining at the resorts. Not only do they have some excellent restaurants, but it's such a pleasure to walk around the hotel public areas like the lobby and grounds and it really does make for a wonderful dining experience rather than just a meal.

The restaurants at AKL make for an especially wonderful meal as there are the nice public areas of the hotel and the hotel savannah area with the animals roaming around. Additionally, Jiko and Sanaa are BOTH exceptionally good restaurants (and I have heard good things about Boma as well, though I have not eaten there yet).
