You certainly can purchase Digital8 at best Buy. I recently purchased mine there. I bought it on the 1 year no interest plan. Mine ran around 700 - 750 dollars and it does EVERYTHING you could want. Several options for connecting to computers, vcrs, etc. Still photos plus video, and most importantly, it plays my old freakin' tapes!

I want to know the same.... I know nothing about computers and all related, and what I learned, learned it online! I do have a DVD player on my pc and I think I can "burn" cd´s in it too, but I haven´t tried it yet. Would that be possible? Can I make a DVD with a digital movie too? :veryconfu

Also, I don´t own a digital camera... yet. It´s my next buy. I don´t need anything fancy, I just want it to have a screen where I can see if my pic is good or not, and take pics as crazy to post online and then print only the ones I want. If possible, but not really important, I would like it to take short video. Which one is good and cheap? Which one would you recommend and where do you recommend to buy it? I am going to Vegas next month and would like to get an idea of the price range. They are very expensive here.

Sorry if the answer to this has been already posted, but it just seemed too complicated for me!

Thank you very much! :)

There is a difference between a DVD player and a DVD "burner". DVD "burners" have only come as stock equipment on computers in the past 4-6 months, and only on high end "multi-media" systems. More than likely, you have a DVD player, so you can view DVDs, not write to a disc like a CDRW drive. Just to make things more confusing, they know have drives that are a DVD-CDRW combo, but they only play DVD.

As far as digital cameras go, it depends on your needs. If you plan on printing out pictures not much bigger than 4x6, then you would be fine with a camera capable of 2 megapixel (2MP). If you plan to print pictures larger than 4x6 (8x10, for instance), you would probably be better with a camera with 3MP. Of course, this is if you want the best image. You can do 8x10 with a 2MP camera, but you might start getting the little dots showing in your picture (what's called pixelation). The cost of a 2MP camera can run anywhere between $250 to $500, depending on the deal you find, and the bells and whistles that come on the camera. I would recommend looking at reviews of cameras, which you can find by doing searches on the web with key words like "digital camera review", or something similar. It helped me alot when I bought my digital camera.

Thank you very much for the camera info! That was very easy to understand! :)

Thank you also for the DVD info. My laptop plays the DVDs and also CD´s in the same place, but when I uploaded a cd on my hard drive, there is another option that says something like "copy to CD or "dispositivo" (it´s in spanish and I don´t know that word in english)", so I thought it could be to a cd, diskette or maybe a DVD.... hehe
Thanks a lot!!

Hello evr'y body!

Okay, here is my dilema. I just received a fairly sizable refund from the feds for taxes!! YAY! Now, my soon to be fiance and I are planning a trip to Disney World over the summer (where i hope to propose..YAY). I want to purchase a Digital Video Camera to record our first major trip together. I have recently made posts about how i want a DVD put out about the major parks etc. and i made the comment that I want to make my own DVD! :hammer:
Here is my guestion to everyone:
What Digital Video Camera does everyone suggest? I was looking at the Sony Digital 8 DCR-TRV140 (i think is the exact name) Basically its the only Digital 8 camera that Best Buy sells. I had a SHARP 8mm camera, and i had a really hard time taping certain rides with really low light. According to this, the LUX is 0 (in nightvision) and 1 lux minimum while recording without the night vision (I think its a 1 because it has a built in light, while the next level up-the240-has a low rating of 4). ARGH, all this technology!!! ALL I WANT IS A BEAUTIFUL PICTURE AND DECENT SOUND! (preferably under $700).

What does everyone else use? Any help would be greatly appreciated. If you want, include horror stories!!! I just want to make sure I know what to do and what not to do.

hope ur girl says yes:sohappy: :king:

Sony TRV130 vs Sony TRV140

I just found the TRV130 for 450.00. One of the salesman at best Buy said that was a really good price for that, and the TRV140 was exactly the same except it was the model for this years. That seems hard for me to believe, it seems the TRV140 would have something extra as an incentive to purchase a new camera. Does anyone know anything about these two cameras? Thank you so much for any help you can give me.

UPDATE UPDATE!!

I finally purchased the camera!

I bought the DCRTRV140.

AWESOME CAMERA!!! The first time i used the camera i was in love. The camera has USB Streaming and software so you can make movies on the puter, and it has night vision and a 20X optical zoom. I totally recommend this, however, i already have a digital camera so i dont use the picture function. One of my favorite functions is the WIDESCREEN option. When you film, you see the black bars on the screen. If you chose playback and use a S-VIDEO Cable on a WIDESCREEN TV (HDTV) the picture on the screen doesnt have the black bars and the picture is crystal clear. The sound is CD quality. I opt to record on SP with 16 bit stereo sound. The sound is amazing and the picture is great. I really dont konw what else to tell about the camera PLEASE ASK QUESTIONS!!!

The only thing i dont like about the camera is this: the new version (140) does not allow you to play back tapes made on an 8mm or HI8 Camera. I was sort of bummed with that, but i figure, ill be making new videos to watch. The 340 (i believe) can playback the older tapes. Anyway, I RECOMMEND THE 140!!

I purchased mine at Circuit City for 474 and it came with a free carrying case and free tripod. Sony also makes DIGITAL 8 tapes to use. I have yet to use anything else, so i dont know how different the quality is from the HI8 tapes. Sony also makes DIGITAL 8/HIGH 8 tapes. Anyway, if u have any questions, by all means pm me or email me at md-dorn@wiu.edu
