Digital Camcorder

Hey everyone! I'm looking for some info from my favorite Disney fans. I'm looking into getting a new digital camcorder. I really like the idea of being able to plug it into my computer and edit it into a DVD. But I don't want to break the bank account on getting one. I'm hoping you can give me a few suggestions. Here's what I'm looking for: 1. something small. By the end of the day I don't want my arm to fall off. 2. something that takes good night time movie aka Illuminations 3. something that takes longer than just a 15 minute video on the card provided. Any tips?

Thanks,
Mark

I'm sure you will get some tips on models from others on the boards. My only suggestion is to avoid Sony, or at least make sure that you have a compatible computer, CDRW or DVDRW. I found out after I bought mine that it will not download the video to my laptops or CDRWs because they are not compatible. Just an FYI.

Glad you posted this - I just ordered a laptop from dell.com with a DVD burner so I was wondering the same thing!

I have a Dell PC and have not had a problem transferring from my Sony mini DV to PC. I use Pinnacle 9 to edit and then burn to DVD.

DVD camcorder

The DVD camcorders are not really priced low enough considering the quality/ease of use yet. First, only Sony uses rewritable DVDs. The other manufactures use either DVDR or DVDRam. The compression format is also not compatible with many editing programs. Check the reviews on CNET and camcorderinfo.com. I was considering buying a DVD camcorder for my trip this June, but I think I will stick with MiniDV tapes. They are cheap and have the same pic quality, and you can get the 3CCD Panasonic for the same amount as a DVD camera. Use the extra money to buy a DVD recorder/player and plug in your camera and record to full size DVDs for about 25cents a pop.
Just my 4 cents.
