Did you know?

Here's a few things I learned while in Florida which I'm sure most of you already know.

The buses in Disney World use 20,000 gallons of gasoline a day

Each swan on top of the Swan hotel is 58,000 lbs

Each dolphin on top of the Dolphin hotel is 60,000 lbs
And the dolphins may look like fish because there are three kinds of dolphins. There are Dolphin Mammals, Dolphin Fish, and Miami Dolphins:animwink:

The dolphins and swans can sustain winds up to 300 mph.

It cost $7,000 to run a firework show at Fantasmic

Disney is adding 3,000 ft. to Swan and Dolphin Hotel

And these are the only things I can remember that cast members told me. Some may be a little off by I'm going by what I heard and remember.

I'm not sure about the weight of the Swans and Dolphins...but you are correct, the DOLPHINS on the roof are Dolphin Fish (Mahi-Mahi)

I've posted this before but I'll repost it here as well...
The swan and dolphins are on the WRONG buildings!!! As they were constructing the building, the Swan (as we know it today) was originally the DOLPHIN and vice versa. They put the statues on the WRONG hotels...and it would've cost too much money to take them down and place them in the correct places.

If you don't believe me, take a look at the buildings...
What is painted on the Dolphin??? blades of grass...
What is painted on the Swan??? Waves...
(a castmember on the Illuminations cruise informed me of that)

Oh yeah...and if they're adding 3000 ANYTHING to the hotel...it will be 3,000 SQUARE feet...

adding 3000 feet sounds like they're plopping an extra 3000 feet to the top of it...(which is about 300 stories)

20,000 gallons of gas a day seems kinda high.
Doesn't Disney have more than a few environ-friendly,propane-powered buses???

Not really.

Disney Transportation uses buses (hundreds), boats (several), and trams (several) for the public. Basically running 12+ hours a day, some even longer. Then MK and Epcot, maybe AK has buses running for cast members. You have security vans patrolling as well. Not to mention the character bus at Epcot.

Then you have personal watercraft for rent.

Plus, you have Illuminations and Fantasmic plus other shows with pyrotechnics. I don't know if fuel for Illuminations or Fantasmic are included in these figures or not.

Well, I do feel for Dan Marino...he definitely DID deserve a ring...
(but this is coming from a Pats fan :) )

The Pats showed ALL CLASS at the Super Bowl!

They should change the name from the Patriots to the Musketeers....

ALL FOR ONE and ONE FOR ALL!

(and don't think this thread drifted...because I'm talking about the Pats...and Tom Brady...and where did he go??? WALT DISNEY WORLD!!!!)

ok, so I drifted a little...but come on people...IT'S BEEN A LONG TIME SINCE A NEW ENGLAND TEAM HAS WON ANYTHING :)

The original post stated the BUSES, not every single gasoline (or to be nitpicky about it) diesel-powered vehicle WDW has.

While there are hundreds of them, not all of them run every single day.

That's why I thought 20,000 gallons was kind of high.

I'm going to tell you all that this is a popular misconception that I also heard from an Illuination boat cruise driver (probably the same one). I didn't feel like correcting him at the time, since the mythology of WDW is half the fun. But here's my story...

When the Disney Institute first opened, My wife and I went, and the Disney Architecture class was taught by an architect who's local firm had helped on a lot of the WDW projects. Part of the class was the tour of the Dolphin and Swan where he pointed out alot of the Robert A.M. Stern design stylings. Yes, he pointed out the Dolphin-fish, but he said the paint schemes were intentionnally done the way they are. If you are in the Dolphin hotel, you look out your window and see the waves from your room. Likewise, if you are in the Swan, you will see grass. This was to allow for the window view to be consistent with the resort you were in.

I went back a year and a half later to the DI, and took the same class, but the architect was no longer the instructor. With the regular cast member in place, the question on the Swan and Dolphin came up, and he did not know the answer, but the myth had already started, since a guest chimed in with it.

Me, I personnally believe the architect, since he was very knowledgable and involved in the resort, but the mythology of the park is so much FUN!

Thanks for reading.

Sounds like a cover up :) But whatever, it could go either way I guess...so maybe it "wasn't" a mistake...but, when you look at it...(now that you know about the statues "in the wrong spots story" it looks odd)
