Did Mr. Toad really have to die?

Let me start off by saying that this is not a knock on the pooh bear ride, I do happen to like that ride. But first Disney took part in a hostle take over forcing Mr. Toad to give up the deed to his house and ride to an owl. Then they killed him and he is burried in the pet cemetary in the HM.

To be serious for a moment, I loved that ride instead of bulding a pooh play ground couldn't they have put the pooh ride there. Then we could have kept Mr. Toad and he would still be alive. I was looking at sattilite pics of the space that 20K took up and there is enough room there for two rides or one big ride this space should not be wasted and Mr. Toad shouldn't be dead!!!

Go to your local mall and ask 20 kids who Mr. Toad is and who Pooh is. Your results will show you why Pooh killed Mr. Toad.

I agree with you.And so does DL;)

It would have been nice to get a FL expansion back then...(and now, for that matter!)

I know i've never been to DL but I better soon before they replace Toad with a pixar dark ride. I could see it now Mr. Toad handing the deed to Remy or Woody.

The original film and the ride are old favorites of mine, but it was time. Even Walt said that everything should always be in a constant state of change. It was supposed to be part of the appeal of the Disney parks.

Mr Toad was a walk on for the last 2 years of it's existence.
His popularity had dwindled so he was replaced by a more popular character.
I liked them both but I also understand why a change was needed.

True....But why is it still in DL then?
Different demographic. DL primary guests are local AP holders which tend to be more nostalgic.

It was an unessasary slauter with all that wasted space and if Toad is good enough for DL he is good enough for WDW!!!
It was necessary. For the sake of argument lets say that you have 4 restaurants, each serving a different type of food. If 3 of those restaurants were consistently busy and one was not wouldn't you change the cuisine for something more popular and profitable? What Disney did was no different. Disney was never intended to be a museum. The man himself said exactly that. The ride was a walk on for years while the other Fantasy Land dark rides were posting 30-60 min waits year round. It is far to expensive of a piece of real estate to go to waste.

It is a cruel world and sometimes you have to shoot the runt of the litter. Mr. Toad was that runt and Pooh put a bullet in him.

That's true. BUT as you can see, WDW has this demographic too. It would have been easy to keep both.
Yes WDW does have it's own demographic. People from all over the world that would say "Mr. Toad? Never heard of him. Winny the Pooh...oh he is so cute! My daughter loves him! I am more of an Eeyore fan myself and my son just loves Tigger!.

Wow, what an absolutely great mental image for a Tuesday afternoon.

That actually brightened my day, despite my love of Mr Toad.:ROFLOL::ROFLOL:

Pooh seems too nice to kill they must have told him that Mr. Toad stole his Honey!
Most people don't know this but Pooh has a split personality. As long as everything is going his way he is a cute, cuddly little bear. Cross him and this is what you get.
