Did I Screw Up?

Yesterday a friend introduced me to someone as the local Disney fanatic. Good right? Well this person strated taking notes books, websights etc. She wasn't sure how many parks there were and was planning a last minute trip for 3 or 4 days this spring. Well when we were finished she said maybe waiting til next year and going for at least a week might be better. She didn't even know that you could book dining. Did I screw up?

OMG no, people have no idea what's in store especially if they go during a busy season. I get out my Disney hat when needed and try to give folks good ideas. Plus if you are going to spend that kind of money you want to get the most of it. We had a guest here at the hotel tell me her friend went (and her friend is in florida) and hated it because she went during such a busy season they had to wait for everything, which in code means she did no pre planning.

Figgy .... this is a convo I had with a Disney newbie 2 yrs ago....
Her ..... we're finally going to Disney, booked 5 days at a Moderately known resort, Coronation Springs
Me .... Um ok, you mean Moderate Resort, and I think you mean Coronado Springs but OK, did you do your dining reservations??
Her ... what dining reservations? Its Disney, we wont starve, but think we'll try that Cellar place you like, if it isnt crowded
Me.... That's Le Cellier, and you really need to book atleast 180 days out
Her .... 180 days out, how do I know what I'll be in the mood to eat 180 days from now!!!!
Me .... Well I sure hope youre going to be in the mood for hamburgers or chicken fingers because if you dont make reservations thats what youll be eating....
Well her and her family did go to Disney, NO reservations and ate at QS's the entire trip LOL Sigh.. when will people listen!!!

No way!! You never could! At least now she knows what is in store. She may have wasted money on the first trip and that would be screwed be:)
I agree. So many people go in unprepared. I really believe so many think its like a day trip to six flags or hershey park with a nice hotel on site. The more you can help them prepare the better

Its good you gave her that advice. My first time to disneyworld I stayed off site -15miles away to be exact- driving to disney every day- had no clue about dining plan or making reservations, it was quite overwhelming you did the exact right thing!

In no way should you even think that you screwed up. All you did was share your insight with somebody about something you love and have experienced in hopes of helping them have a good trip. At the end of the day, the choice rests solely on them and hopefully they can use the info you provided them with to help plan a better trip, whether it is in a couple of months or a year or two.

It's win-win really. They get helpful information from someone who knows what to expect and you get to talk about WDW with someone!! ;) :D

All you can do is try and help. I think you at least opened their eyes to this being much more than they anticipated. I get frustrated some of the time when engaging in such discussions, but there are usually kids involved...so I just keep telling myself that if I get through to said person- I will hopefully help a child have a better trip. :) That being said...some people just will never get it.
