My Great Aunt met Walt Disney in the summer of 56 when their family took a road trip from Ohio to Disneyland. I knew of this story before I even went to WDW for my first time, so it's stuck with me sense then.
According to her, they waited for about a full year before they went to Disneyland because her Father was weary as to how successful the place would be....he didn't want to spend a lot of money and go to a place with terrible reviews....luckily the bad reviews of Disneyland because of the opening day fiasco changed to good reviews quickly.
They parked their car "in the big parking lot" (this being the lot where DCA was later built) and one of the first rides they went on was the Jungle Cruise...and the Skipper didn't narrate, and a man got into the boat and the Skipper said "Ladies and Gentleman we have a special guest with us this afternoon) and it was Walt freaking Disney! He narrated the entire Jungle Cruise the way it was meant to be (the original "serious" version)...afterward he stopped to meet with the different families who rode, and go figure.....my Great Aunt's Mother was in charge of the camera and she left in on the car's dashboard....but my great aunt did meet walt disney and he said he was very charming, calm, and answered all the children's questions.
