We had this on our last trip, and if I remember right, they send you a slip of paper you can put in your car window to show you have the option. If you didn't get anything in the packet they sent you, call the agent and follow up on it. The parking option is a great idea in theory, but not in execution. At the Magic Kingdom and Epcot you do get to park close to the front of the lot, but WAY off to the side. And none of the trams come by the area. At MK this mean you have walk all the way down to where the regular parking is, then walk along the fence, under the overpass, past where the kennel was, just to get to the Ticket Center, THEN walk more to either the ferry or monorail. At the end of an evening, not so much fun. Disney Studios is a little better, we never did make it to AK to see where we would have wound up there.

The diamond parking is basically the first row of the parking lot. The thing is though you’re not close enough to the park entrance that you wouldn’t want to use the tram. The tram will not make a special stop to pick you up and drop you off. The tram will pick people up beside the row that is currently being parked. Then later in the day it will make one stop in the center of the section. So you’re better off just parking with the majority, you won’t be missing out on anything.

While that may be true at some parks, it is not so for all. At MK of course, parking in AAA is not really worth it and at EPCOT it could be or not depending on where they send you. However, at DHS and AK I would MUCH rather use AAA than to be stuck out in the back lot waiting for a tram on a hot day. The AAA spots in those two parks is right up front.

you have to purchase a package from AAA to get it, but you can buy them on EBAY pretty cheap.

We did that once, really not worth it for us. Kids were not happy they didn't get to ride the tram. :p

My AAA office gave it to me when I went for my TripTik and accompanying Bag o Stuff. The girl drove to Orlando all the time and was real happy and informative about the drive and everything Disney/Uni. I thought at the time that Orlando should hire her for its Convention & Visitors organization.

It isn't really helpful at MK at all. It's more walking than just taking the tram.

If you arrive early to Epcot, it's not very helpful there. It is closer in the afternoon, though.

AK is a toss up. I might use one there.

I don't remember MGM.

Like someone said, you can get them cheap on eBay. I know I could get one for $5 and it would last all year...and I don't even bother. I don't think it's worth the trouble of taking it out, lol.

I still love AAA, though. :)

Some AAA offices will give them out, some require a purchase of some sort and some require the purchase of a package. It varies, even in the same metropolitan area.

I don't know how long the walks are. It's not like I measure it, KWIM? Not a mile, though. If you don't mind walking, it just isn't that big a deal.

If you were injured or elderly, it might be an issue, but none of it is that big a deal.

Well i keep reading about trams and monorails from the parking area to the parks so thought maybe if i wanted to walk to the gate from parking that i would need to take a ram or somthing to the gate. I havent been to disney world in 13 years so i have no idea about certain things i was only 10 yrs old

At the Magic Kingdom, you can't walk to the gate from parking. There is a man-made lake you have to cross. If you have diamond parking, you walk to the TTC where you must catch the monorail or ferry. If you ride a bus from your resort, then it takes you to the a place you do walk a short distance to the gate.

This whole "Take the tram or walk?" thing is actually more of an issue lately. Disney is running fewer trams. When it isn't busy, you might sit there on the tram for ten minutes or more waiting for it to go to the park (or the TTC, in the MK lot.)

If you spent that ten minutes walking, you'd beat the tram to the front of the park. I do it a lot.

It will be crowded that week because of the Food and Wine Festival, so I strongly recommend that you be at the park as soon as it opens and head for the rides you want to ride the most. If you are there at opening, you will be able to ride most of the long wait rides before the parks start to fill-up. We came home yesterday, and the Magic Kingdom was more crowded than it was in June. It was extremely hot also. If you want help planning which park to go to each day and what to ride first and what to fastpass, let me know, and I'll be glad as will many others on here to advise you on how to make the most of your time.
