Diagon Alley Walls are Down

Yeah the screen size is a bit of a let down. I was expecting something more like the big windows seen in the movies from how everyone was saying how amazing it would be. I'll hold final judgement for when I actually ride it though.

As you can see from this screencap (at the bottom of post), the window size is actually larger, and accurate to the dimensions portrayed in the movie. I've rewatched that part of the video several times, and it is clear that the top few panes are frosted or 'clouded' so that, whereas you can see the display through these top panes, the details are obscured. I suspect the overall effect of size will work quite well (while giving them the ability to perhaps 'hide some seams'). You can see the video footage of the actors riding the train here.

What do you think the HE and the TV screens?

A few years ago, Whylightbulb said the following about the projection technology used on the Hogwarts Express (posted right here, on these boards).

"the projection/media system will be far more advanced than the example Lance gives. During tests people have been getting a bit sick due to the ultra-realism and depth perception. The media actually needs to be created in layers with varying speeds represented based on the speed of the train and sequence. As far as in cabin effects, let's just say that the cabins could get a bit chilly at times for one example."

"Exactly. We tried single layer video and it caused motion sickness. It was determined that synch. between motion and video was not the cause in this case. What we are working on now is extremely labor intensive and technically complex and will make for a very realistic experience. The results based on early tests are stunning. let's hope the support, financially and otherwise, continues as it has so far." (Compiled on Parkscope)

This, combined with more recent word from insiders here and on Orlando United that the ride will feature 3D imagery without the use of 3D glasses, makes it clear that Universal Creative is using cutting edge technology. I suspect it is probably an effect that looks great in person, but would not photograph well. (In other words, I don't think these are simple TV screens)

At least the train belongs to that project. I can overlook that issue as it is creativity at its best. I'm looking forward to it.

It belongs to the backlots of San Fran? I missed that part of the books I guess, when the train pulled out of King's cross and magically transported to San Fran coast and then transported again to the countryside of England...

THIS IS 100% INTERNET SARCASM. I know it belongs to the attraction. I am totally nitpicking. ;)

Wow, this expansion is really shaping up. Can't remember the last time I was this eager with anticipation for a theme park expansion, and I haven't seen a Harry Potter movie for years.
