DHS - Waste of Time

This is from a Disney veteran. I have been there and done that. In my opinion, there are only 4 rides there: TSMM, RnRC, ToT, and ST. Everything else is shows and stuff to look at. This is nice if it ever changes. The problem is that it gets old and not repeatable. Because there is nothing to spread the crowds, lines are long. This is poor planning at the extreme.

What needs to be done?
1. Accelarated attraction development. Start with the attractions that can be done quickly. These are the Fantasyland type rides.

2. Bring in the 3-4 E-rides that are required. These are needed because there is nothing else there.

3. Build on Star Wars and Marvel

There's too much being closed, while nothing is being built to replace it.

Back in 94 when we first visited Orlando, we were told to visit MGM before we visited Universal because US was far better. Over the years MGM became the superior park - what went wrong ???

Serious question: did you get your parks reversed, or do you actually mean that DHS has become superior to US?

When did MGM Studios/Disney's Hollywood Studios ever become better than Universal Studios? I certainly must have missed those years.

In the late 1990s, prior to Islands of Adventure Opening in 1999, I would say that MGM was a more enjoyable experience for me. And by quite a bit. Back then, the Animation Tour and Backlot Tour at MGM were still at their full length/depth/detail, both Beauty and the Beast and Hunchback stage shows were of excellent quality, either Sorcery in the Sky was still a nightly fireworks display or Fantasmic! was a brand spanking new show (late 1998). Tower of Terror was still quite new and so soon we have forgotten how incredibly ground breaking that attraction really was.

Both parks had between 15-20 attractions (depending on your definition of attraction), but the quality of MGM's attractions was (IMHO) vastly superior to Universal.

Then, in 1999, everything changed.

I completely agree. We do just a 1/2 day at both HS and AK bc we only like about 5 rides at each park. We then park hop over to Epcot, MK, DD or to the resorts. I kinda like them being only 1/ days though, allows me more time to do the stuff we live to do in Epcot and MK.

I don't feel like it's a waste of time, but it definitely lacks attractions. Hopefully something gets announced soon to revive DHS.
That's true. In my opinion, GMR and ToT are definitely worth checking out, its fine if you miss RnRc, and TSMM and ST are better off apart of a DLR trip. That leaves me two rides that's home is DHS, which just doesn't fill a full day at a Disney park. The shows are nice, and a lot of the park is pleasantly themed, but there just should be more to do and hopefully that'll come soon.

You forgot about the Great Movie Ride.

2.) DHS needs more than E-rides in terms of rides. One of the reasons TSMM has the lines it does is because of the lack of rides that are for all ages at DHS currently. RNRC, TOT are not for all ages. The Great Movie Ride isn't completely kid friendly because the alien scene. The closing of The Backlot Tour at this time is pointing to creating a Toy Story land based on what read on this site and other Disney sites back in September/October. Toy Story Land being planned is fixing the Non E-ride problem.

3.) You really really limited to what you do with Marvel because of the nature of the contract. Disney can't build attractions on Characters that are party of the Avenger family. Right now, Guardians of the Galaxy doesn't belong to the Avengers Family at this time. That is the only Marvel property you can say that about it that was released in the theater already. The catch is there has been about that would change in a future Marvel movie.

Star Wars is where the focus needs to be on as a result.

The park needs a true direction. Right now it is a smattering of rides that are loosely themed around movies.

IMO they never really left the "operating studios" theme behind and in fact just renamed it due to breaking with MGM but never really took the park in a different direction and just left it to flounder and flop around like a fish on the bank of a river gasping for air. The park needs some sort of clearly defined purpose and theme to continue growth and even if they throw new lands at us it still seems like a shotgun approach instead of truly and clearly outlining what exactly the park is supposed to be in terms of an experience for the guest.

Disney doesn't really care about providing shows and attractions for veteran visitors. We tend to keep coming back no matter what, but seriously how many times can you see the same Indiana Jones show, the same Beauty and the Beast Show, the same and horrible Lights, Cars, Action or whatever it's called, the same Muppet 3D show? Every year Disney gets millions of new visitors that have never seen the park nor any of it's attractions and shows. To those people, this is as new and exciting to them as it once was to us. Why spend money to upgrade or improve when throngs of people will show up anyway? On our last 5 day visit I don't think we spent more than 10 hours total in DHS.

I've never understood the "half-day park" complaints for either DHS or AK. I comfortably fill a day or two at each every trip.
Well, if you do absolutely everything there, then yes, it is. However, usually everything doesn't appeal to everybody, so they don't do it all.
Also, its possible that a lot of the day could be taken up by queue time.
