DHS Rope drop

Funny story on about my first rides on TSMM.

A few friends went to WDW last June, about a month before my July trip so when they got back they were telling us about it and all. One of the main topics was how crazy the waits were at TSMM and you had to get there at rope drop to get a FP and they actually did not ride it at all because they did not want to wait 2 hours in line. So when my group of 4 gets to DHS on our trip we're not even planning on riding it because we got there about 11am or so and we also didnt want to wait in lines. Well we're standing right inside the park looking at a map and this lady walks up to me and asksif I want FPs to TSMM because she has to leave the park, I said sure and the lady handed me SEVEN FPs for it! Needless to say we went and rode it a few times and skipped the hour and a half wait for it.

Since i'm going again in a few weeks hopefully the lines wont be bad and we'll ride it a few times, if not, RnRC here I come, lol.

Last August, we arrived at DHS around 11:30 am and there were no FP's left. (We knew that we might not be able to get one arriving so late, but could not resist evening EMH at MK the night before) It was down for refurb our first day there. The standby line was a 2 hr wait at the time. We kept checking back with no luck. We lucked out and met a nice group of people from New York in the line for T of T, who offered us some of their FP's (Thanks again!) or we would not have ridden TSMM the entire trip. We have done the rope drop twice, and the CM's do their best to keep things from getting to out of hand. You can only go as fast as they do. They don't let you pass them.

Last time I was there TSMM was still under construction, so I haven't been a part of the madness yet. Here's my question...am I better off rushing to the fast pass kiosks to get passes for my family to use later, then meet them over at TOT/RNRC, or should we all go over to TSMM (take longer to get there as a group), screw the FPs, and just hop in the stand-by line?

I would say you take the tickets and bee line it that way. If you are there at rope drop you have a really good chance at getting the fastpasses. If you don't then just wait till later when either the line dies down (late at night) or it breaks down and you happen to be standing right in front of it when it comes up.

As someone who was very excited about this attraction before it opened, I don't think it is worth all the trouble! It is a fun attraction, but here at DCA if it has more then a 15 minute wait I walk past it. It is something fun to do once and maybe again if it is a short line, but the "rerideablity" of it is just not there, it is a video game that you ride. I am a huge video game fan and Toy Story fan, but it is just not that amazing. But don't take my word, I think Soarin' is dull and wont wait for that one either.
