Disney owns the Star Wars franchise now. They are going to make Episodes 7,8 & 9, and possibly spin-off films as well. They want to please all of the fans, so Lucas will be a "creative advisor", and the films will be in the vein of the prior films. FOX, I believe, still owns the merchandising rights for the first Star Wars film, (George had to cut some deals to keep the film on track), but other than that, I think Disney has the right to build whatever Star Wars land/attractions they want without having to pay anybody a dime.
I am pretty sure Disney owns merchandising rights to all movies now, but fox owns the distribution rights to the first film. They can't release a box set including a new hope without buying the rights from Fox. There should be no obstacle preventing any theme park attractions.

Why don't they just build a fifth gate ;)

Wouldn't it need to be a fifth gate? Imagine all of the Star Wars fans flocking to a recreation of Mos Eisley, or other parts of the Star Wars universe. Star Tours is a nice little ride, but it isn't a land, sub-land, or anything like that.

Also, what about the big "Celebration" conventions they used to have for Star Wars? They could do something like that inside a fifth gate with extra space built for it.

Yep... It is edible, however so is glue. Doesn't mean its good. I'm not asking for Via Napoli, but c'mon Totinoes is better than what they serve at pizza planet, and yes I know they sell a lot of pizza. But maybe, and I'm just saying maybe... the reason why they sell it is becuase they are primarily first time customers who have no idea the poor level of food they are getting. I wonder what the return rate is among guests. In my case, I will never return.

Why not expand on Indiana Jones? Maybe put in a coaster (wasn't there talk of a mine train along the lines of the scene from Temple of Doom years back?), after all it is a part of Lucasfilm as well.
I believe it was more than talk, I know from concept art (Disney's America Park) that they had a coaster that was super close to what an IJ - ToD coaster would look like. Of course I have no official insider information on how close or along this idea was.

They still do have the Celebration conventions every year, and the last two have even been in Orlando. And now that I think about this, the acquisition should almost guarantee that the next convention is on Disney property.

There was a Eddie Soto designed Indy mine train coaster. And that coaster showed up in Hong Kong as
Big Grizzly Mountain Runaway Mine Cars they just replaced Indy and the bad guys with Grizzly bears. Eddie didn't even know this until I showed him the artwork after his description of his INDYcoaster sounded VERY familiar.

Get some rides for the kids. That's all I'm asking for.

Agreed. Cars Land would help, especially if there is an all ages replacement for Luigi's, and I'd hope any large scale Star Wars expansion would include at least some attractions that are fine for young children (maybe something themed to the Ewoks or pod racing).

I may be one of very few but I did the American Idol experience for the first time on my last trip and actually enjoyed it VERY much!. I thought it was cool and an attraction like that, disney does nothave much of anymore. It felt Like I was on a reality show! and I can say firsthand(the audtion process) was very cool too!

Just saw the ride on youtube looks pretty amazing. Much better than Everest or BTMRR. This would really be neat if it were completely indoors and themed to IJ. Love how is it both a traditional chain lift and launching coaster all in one. Not a lot of super thrills, but my family would really enjoy this.
