And to think I almost booked a trip just for this day. Cupcakes huh and an extended wishes.
For those referencing the special ending to wishes being similar to Illuminations 25th, its just extra fireworks with extra power, was not that spectatular if it will be the same type of special ending that Illuminations 25 was.
If you are let down by these details and booked a trip for this, I feel your sorrow

Just because you don't think it's fun, doesn't mean you should bring it down. I'm going to be there and be happy it's been a great forty years regardless if I get a cupcake or not.

what exactly does the lack of a celebration have to do with yesterdays announce?
Is it because there was this new historical announcement Disney is now allowed to deflate a monumental birthday?
I dont see how these 2 are related?

That was what I was going to say. We got the big announcement everyone has been waiting for, so the fact that the celebrations are going to be a bit limited doesn't surprise or bother me.

well then this doesnt apply to you then does it. I was telling the folks that if they booked a trip for this day and if they are now scratching their heads asking why, i feel their sorrow...
For you I'm glad you are looking forward to it...But people here have high
expectations for everything disney and if they dont get that then they're not happy. If thats not you then carry on and ignore what i said.
cheers

the only thing i can think of is that its close, very close to a new quarter...so with this news fresh in shareholders minds they will have ear to ear grins about potential profits and be happy with their little company they are invested in

I thought the announcement of Avatar coming to Animal Kingdom was kind of...random.

I made a response to how someone commented on no new attractions. The new attraction announcement came in a big way yesterday. I don't really know what people would like Disney to do for the celebration since a major announcement was made 24 hours ago. They're going to have their presentation, special fireworks, and cupcakes for all guests. All I kept hearing from people here is that they wanted a big announcement for the party...well we all got an early bday present then. However, no one ever commented on what else they want from the anniversary...and I can't really see what else you would love to see them do. Is nothing good enough for the fan base anymore?

A new parade would have helped, but cupcakes and fireworks it is, and the tiki room is back so thats better than nothing for sure.

I mean there are a lot of other things I would like to see added or changed as well. However, you need to think about the amount of capital that parks and resorts has out there now and in the near future. We're talking billions of dollars, amounts of money that we haven't heard of them spending in ages. So with that in mind, I can't really complain about not getting a new parade or something along those lines.

I'm frustrated Wine & Dine is that night. Would have wanted to be at MK that evening for the fireworks--it IS my favorite park after dark!

But being optimistic, I can say it will be neat to run my first half marathon on Disney World's 40th anniversary. My first 13K was for Tower of Terror's 13th birthday, so it makes sense, hahaha.

The issue with the AVATAR announcement is that per the horses mouth they havent really even started the blue-sky phase... This isnt like the FLE announcement where they had at least concept art drawn up and the concept was beyond blue-sky. AVATAR is still 4-5 years out, and by that time they are probably going to use it as WDW's 45th birthday present. This has nothing to do with the milestone of 40 years for the resort. How long have they known about WDW's 40th birthday... I dont know 40 years??? They had a great opportunity to fill the gap for the next 5+ years... For heavens sake when Disneyland was having their 50th WDW got Sorin and Everest at the minimum.

Don't think for a second that TDO had any say more than likely in the AVATAR partnership just like the FLE. The Ivory Tower in Burbank pulled the cards to put this there. I am not an expert in the finances of WDW but I would assume that they have some pull on what to get for their parks. WDI isnt just waiting for WDW management to pick up the phone and say "So... What do you got?" they more than likely have tons of projects that could have been greenlit and ready to go fairly fast.

I'm just saying that if we are content with the product, this is the product we are going to continually get. I've cut back my trips because there is no incentive for me to go as often except to see the look in my daughters eyes. I'm sure I am not the only one who feels this way.

It was just a coincidence that the AVATAR Announcement happened a week and a half before the 40th birthday.
