This is their indirect apology for what they're doing to Frontierland

Telling that they waited over 30 years to finally do it (after years of rumor and delay) and announce it within 60 days of closing RoA

So happy this is finally happening. Is this the last scene or the first scene?

It will be a new introductory scene per Disney:

Progress and innovation were two of Walt’s cornerstone passions, which is as evident in the show today as it was when it first debuted. Before you follow an American family (and Rover!) over four generations of progress as technology transforms their lives and paves the way for once-unimaginable innovations, you’ll be able to catch a brand-new introductory scene and hear from the legendary man who never stood in the way of progress — Walt Disney.

I know this is the mid-fan convention take. But I think the “company is trying to bury Walt” perspective is really not where the creatives are at.

I actually would have been upset at COP removal because it is legitimately WDW’s only true Walt legacy attraction.

I take it the Walt animatronic is the new opening scene after you sit.

Edit - @DCBaker beat me to it.

Also hilarious that WDW gets it slow Tomorrowland fix and we sit and wait for Disneyland Tomorrowland.

"Hexed" is the new movie, about a boy's "weirdness actually being hidden magic shining through." "They discover that can what often make us feel different may be the most special part of who we are."

This "discovering who you are" is like the same plot of the last 10 Disney movies, repackaged, not to mention a tired idealogical metaphor. It would be nice to get some movie versions of fairy tails again, where there is external conflict and villains causing the protagonist to change who he is, rather than finding out he never needed to change. It's not like Disney has exhausted the library of old stories.

To my mind it’s a tried and true movie trope, right up there with the heroine who’s “not like other girls”. (I am somewhat curious how this theme plays to cultures that are more collectivist though.) It was definitely the “wholesome feel good message for parents” in the Minecraft movie and central to HTTYD.

I think where Disney has struggled with some of its more recent movies is in creating content that’s really engaging this generation of kids. It feels like “fast paced and funny” dominates the kids movie market right now, although hard to say if that’s a fad or a lasting change.

Great this is much better than the curtain. Do we think they will finally update the last scene?

Beatty: “Walts name is in the title, so you know we thought it’s only fitting that Walt Disney himself introduced the show in a brand new scene.”

Good catch. Interesting. So no update on the 80s ending but we get an intro by Walt himself. He then quickly said you’ll see updates on John, Sarah and the rest of the family and there will be more to come at a later date.
