The session with Jodi Benson and Ron Clements was really good - really fun stories and they shared Ron has returned on a part time basis to help mentor young animators and directors

The opposite of their lack of park panel expectation setting. Don’t make a villains panel if you were not willing to bring one updated concept image.

Though I don’t think it speaks to a lack of progress. Rather willingness and likely a mismatch between the conference organizers and what WDI wanted to share. There are still likely 3+ more D23s before this opens. But we have a lot more on DCAs Pandora that is probably on a similar timeline and similar start of development.

What a complete waste of time this morning. Can’t believe we did not get at least a name for the land or new concept art. So disappointing.

Josh lied for sure last year. They are still in the creative process for Villians Land. The room is still stunned at the lack of substance.
The first issue is thinking that they would make anything adjacent to a major announcement at a small event.

I don’t think people were looking for a major announcement, just updates. Parks and Experiences have been at this event the past few times for announcements and updates. They could have just saved the free event they hosted last week that had many updates, and done that in a 30 min session at d23 to people who paid a lot of money and was promised the biggest Destination D23 ever.

Well, they have made announcements before and numerous ones. The infamous Blue Sky panel was at a destination. Not that was great. This is the first year without a Parks Panel. I would have been fine with small news and 2 or 3 concept art pieces.

So I don’t see it as my issue but a Disney issue.

I liked the little tidbits about the art style and potential decor, but I was expecting at least one concept art. Hopefully, this panel will put the claims that “Disney has banned Dr. Facilier” to rest, it probably won’t.
I was definitely getting hyped by the segment about the architecture but it felt like that would have been a good time to show off some new concept art but they decided not to. Then the whole panel just abruptly ended around 10 mins early so I feel like there was supposed to be more and a decision was made at the last minute to cut some reveals.

At a certain point you guys have to come to terms with your expectation setting. Fool me once…
Agreed. There was no parks panel, so no one should have expected any jaw dropping announcements or big details or much of anything parks related.

It's a shame the "details" about the Villains land are really just fluff but that's what I expected. As much as we want to hope otherwise, it's not going to be opening anytime soon or even kind of soon. They are still at the drawing board stage. I'd say 2030 at the earliest at the rate they are going. Remember, Tropical Americas was first hinted at a few years ago and is just now barely under construction.

Disney made no promises or hints towards any big reveals.
Maybe it’s partly my fault for setting up high expectations but this take is a flat out lie. They specifically said to watch out for announcements during four specific panels and villains was listed as one of them.

I’ll give them this though, that Carousel of Progress announcement is pretty sweet and I’m very happy they are doing that.
