Dessert Party or After Hours?

Alright, folks, I need help finalizing a decision (story of my lifešŸ˜…)for my trip this summer.

What I originally wanted to do was Magic Kingdom After Hours, however, those end in June and my trip is in July; so now my choices are either Hollywood Studios After Hours Event on July 11th or doing a Happily Ever After dessert party on our Magic Kingdom Day, July 12. I've heard such great things about the after hours events, however, this one would fall the night before our Magic Kingdom Day; which we all know is generally the craziest of park days.

Given that it will be myself and my 12yo niece on her very first trip to Disney, what would you recommend? Thanks in advance!

We were at DL last Oct. and rode the GoG replacement and I wasnt all that impressed. We did the original and the evening Halloween overlay Monsters after dark and IMHO ToT remains the best.
I actually like the GotG ā€œToTā€ version but I would be devastated if they rethemed WDW ToT! I like having different versions on each coast. Canā€™t wait t see the Japanese version of it when we go

I didnt hate it. I did enjoy it, but having such a long time (years of visits) love for ToT, I'm sure that tainted my view of it. I was immediately taken aback when I saw the outside change.

I won't disagree that the dessert party is overpriced. That having been said, if you do choose it, do the post-fireworks dessert party. (Remember, there are variations with watching from the Tomorrowland Terrace or a viewing point out in the plaza.) That way, you can watch the fireworks from the designated area then enjoy the dessert spread while the crowds thin out.
