Hey, who would have guessed we have something in common...I don't care for roller coasters either.
And you are going to confuse some people when you say there is a lot more to WDW than rides and attractions...those people who think there are only rides...what are these attractions you speak of?
Well let me see..Theres Jasmine,Snow White,Princess Merida.

We like SSR as well. It is underrated I think because of its size and location...two things that don't bother us and we actually like...SSR is an elegant looking place with great landscaping and lovely grounds...and if you don't like the pool you are at, go to one of the other three...all four are nice pools.
You guys are getting me excited for our upcoming stay now :D

When I read people asking advice on what resort do you recommend it seems to me that the choices of deluxe are the hardest to decide on..There never seems one clear outright winner..Unlike the value or moderate resorts..According to Debs All Ears..The poll puts "Music" the favourite " Stars " resort with AoA and Pop also high in the value chart..In the moderates POFQ leads with PORS second followed by CBR and CSR bringing up the rear..Now I know these are just opinions from Disney vacationers, but I'am a bit of a statistician when it comes to reviews..Sorry.:grumpy: ..Some people might say it's because there's more of a choice when it comes to picking a deluxe resort, and that may be so. IMOH I think if I were to spend 14 days & nights in a deluxe resort and with the cost of around £8000 to £10000 ( $12000 to $15000 ) I would want to make sure I've picked a winner..So now eventually to my question..For all you lucky people who have stayed at a deluxe or maybe a few in your vacations..Do you find it difficult to choose ? Or do you listen to other people who recommend their favourite.? :hungover:
Dont see CSR "bringing up the rear"
Thompson 2013-2014 brochure gives
PO resort 94%
CSR 90%
CBR 86%
again

I’m not a big roller coaster fan either; maybe we should form a club. In other news I was answering some Disney related questions for a co-worker when another co-worker overheard us and stated “I went to Disney World once, I was bored in a half an hour.” This guy could be a cast member on the “Big Bang Theory” so I casually mentioned Star Tours, Star Wars Weekend and the proposed Avatar Land. The bored with Disney guy got very excited and wanted to know a lot more.

I have stayed at CR 3x, Poly 11x (may be more, I lost count), GF 2x, WL 2x, CBR 2x, PORS 6x (and again this Nov.), POFQ 1x, and All Star Sports 1x (poor college student, couldn't afford more). We like to try different resorts when we go. If you ask my fam which one is his/ her fav, you will get different answers. My and one of my DD's fav is CR. we love looking out over the lagoon or lake and watching the boats or the monorail travel around. The walk to MK and monorails to Epcot are great. It has good restaurants. Big rooms. Great energy and vibe. My DH's fav is WL. He likes the NW theme and coziness of the resort. He likes to walk around the grounds and enjoys the boat ride to/ from MK. It has great details in the room decor. My other DD's fav is Poly. She likes the tropical theme. The GF, although nice to visit, is too stuffy for my taste. We have started staying at Moderates recently due to tuition bills, but I still enjoy staying there. PORS is my personal fav. Love the Old South theme (I am a big Gone with the Wind fan). My dream is to stay at an Epcot resort, especially Beach Club.
If I were going for two weeks, I would consider splitting my stays b/w 2 resorts so I could experience more than one. Just remember if you are splitting b/w a Deluxe and Moderate to stay at the Moderate first so you don't get spoiled by the Deluxe first.

We are currently doing the tour. Staying at adifferent resport each time. Since I go one several 3 day trip a year this is easier to do. Up next is the Wilderness lodge on Labor Day weekend. I do not see much difference in the standard rooms. So far my favorites are:
  • Value AOA Mermaid rooms ( have not done the family suite) Nothing against the All Stars or Pop. Like the pool and splash area for the kids. The resort grounds make me feel like I never left a park to an extent.
  • Moderate PORS/CSR sorry Hatter they both have something a little unique. Plus I got the best upgrade ever at CSR (the Executive Suite in the Casistas Building) so I owe them loyalty.
  • Deluxe I would say Wilderness lodge just from visiting. Im not a rope drop person so monorail and transport are not that big to me. It seems very peaceful. Love the GF but not if I want fancy I'll wait for the Four Seasons. Have to say the Dolphin has a great pool area also.

I think there is no real answer to this question. So many variables come into play when deciding where to stay. What time of year, weather, budget, etc. We do not have children yet so we enjoy YC because it is quiet and close to EPCOT where we spend more time wining and dining. When I visit with my niece and nephews it is WL or Poly because kids seem to love the theme they both have. To each his own I guess. Great topic though because everyone can chime in on what they prefer and why, which gives us all reasons to check out something new. +1 for @real mad hatter

On my first trip staying at CBR I was gobsmacked how many same faces I saw sitting around the pool on a daily basis. Like Whits all that about??? We're in the most magical place on earth..Still confuses me..I could save a fortune by booking a cheap European vacation at a 4 star hotel and sitting by the pool..I know it's your thing ( I take it there's no kids on your trip ) But this is one mystery that has me completely gobsmacked.:banghead:

I think it's partially a cultural thing. I haven't lived or worked in Europe for years, so things may have changed and I'll just speak for my wife and myself.

I own a small company and my wife manages a department of an environmental consulting firm. Financially we are fortunate, but not "rich". Last year, to keep from laying employees off, I took enough pay to cover bills and not go into debt. We both have responsibilities to companies, clients, and employees that require us to always be available. It's part of the job.

For us Disney is blocked out on the calendar, in early December, every other year. If we can get away from work, family obligations, haven't had to pour savings into the property we purchased to retire on, etc. we make a trip in those years. Next year, is already off the table as we will be visiting Europe or saving the funds to do so in three years since my wife has never been.

For 10-14 days I do my best not to think about clients and deliverables, budgets, profit margins and the lot (I typed that last phrase with a really bad IRISH accent since much of my family immigrated from there ;) ). The Contemporary is our usual home. The monorail is "convenient", and does allow us to maximize our time getting to and from parks and restaurants in two parks and several resorts. (In my youth I was a soldier and some lessons have stuck. I'm now a computer geek/engineer and that training has stuck. As a result my relaxation has a regimental structure to the frivolity!) We have a list of things we want to see and do, to allow for time to do absolutely NOTHING with as little responsibility and thought as possible.

After the flight home from MCO, a load of laundry goes into the wash, we wrestle with three bird dogs that we've missed, and we pile into bed to start the next cycle somewhat tired physically but mentally refreshed and looking forward to careers that we do love. That's the bizarre American/Texan balance we've struck which seems to suit us.

Did that even remotely address your question?;) If not, maybe we can share a pint over Skype and discuss it while watching some footie sometime.

MK side: Contemporary or GF
Epcot side: Beach club but it can be loud. Lots and Lots of kids.
Boardwalk is my 2nd option

I personally think that unless you're loaded then the deluxe resorts are a waste of money. We always stay at Pop Century and use the money saved on fine dining, experiences, special souvenirs etc. Why pay thousands of dollars for a room you only sleep and wash in? as the whole day is spent in the parks/other attractions. As nice as they are I don't personally see the point. The values are comfy and perfectly adequate. If I was to ever recommend a hotel it would be a moderate or value resort.
I totally agree. Although if we go in the late spring or summer months we usually do a moderate. Way better pools.
