On my first trip staying at CBR I was gobsmacked how many same faces I saw sitting around the pool on a daily basis.
Like Whits all that about??? We're in the most magical place on earth..Still confuses me..I could save a fortune by booking a cheap European vacation at a 4 star hotel and sitting by the pool..I know it's your thing ( I take it there's no kids on your trip ) But this is one mystery that has me completely gobsmacked.
I think it's partially a cultural thing. I haven't lived or worked in Europe for years, so things may have changed and I'll just speak for my wife and myself.
I own a small company and my wife manages a department of an environmental consulting firm. Financially we are fortunate, but not "rich". Last year, to keep from laying employees off, I took enough pay to cover bills and not go into debt. We both have responsibilities to companies, clients, and employees that require us to always be available. It's part of the job.
For us Disney is blocked out on the calendar, in early December, every other year. If we can get away from work, family obligations, haven't had to pour savings into the property we purchased to retire on, etc. we make a trip in those years. Next year, is already off the table as we will be visiting Europe or saving the funds to do so in three years since my wife has never been.
For 10-14 days I do my best not to think about clients and deliverables, budgets, profit margins and the lot (I typed that last phrase with a really bad IRISH accent since much of my family immigrated from there
). The Contemporary is our usual home. The monorail is "convenient", and does allow us to maximize our time getting to and from parks and restaurants in two parks and several resorts. (In my youth I was a soldier and some lessons have stuck. I'm now a computer geek/engineer and that training has stuck. As a result my relaxation has a regimental structure to the frivolity!) We have a list of things we want to see and do, to allow for time to do absolutely NOTHING with as little responsibility and thought as possible.
After the flight home from MCO, a load of laundry goes into the wash, we wrestle with three bird dogs that we've missed, and we pile into bed to start the next cycle somewhat tired physically but mentally refreshed and looking forward to careers that we do love. That's the bizarre American/Texan balance we've struck which seems to suit us.
Did that even remotely address your question?
If not, maybe we can share a pint over Skype and discuss it while watching some footie sometime.
