I just read that Delta airlines doubled the fee to check a second bag for domestic flights to $50 from $25 to help offset record fuel prices.

Can you tell us where you read this? I've just checked their website and there is no mention of the fee raising to $50. Everything is still listing $25 for the extra baggage.

how many people carry on more than one bag? Now i know there are people sho try to get all their things in their carry one bag so they do not have to go through the hassel of waiting for their bags after landing or checking them in when leaving.

Most airlines only allow one carryon bag and one "personal" bag (purse, laptop, etc), but the OP is referring to checked bags.

grrrrrrr I was worried that this would happen! We're off to WDW the end of August for 11 days (flying delta). So of course we're each going to need a suitcase. On top of that though my husband is a golfer so we always bring his clubs. Looking like it may be cheaper to rent them while we're there!

when did you buy your tickets? Go to their website and carefully read the baggage section. We're flying to DL in August and this has caused us to re-think our luggage situation.

In the past we have tried to avoid carrying on baggage. I prefer to pack as much in my checked baggage as I can. I always felt that people trying to pack all their belongings into carry-on luggage to be placed into the overhead compartments was in a way lazy and inconsiderate because it takes up so much of the already limited space, there's all the bumping into people, etc. just to save 15 minutes and a trip to the baggage carousel. I understand it's not fun to get where you're going and not have your luggage join you but it's part of flying. Especially with kids there's already too much crap you have to carry onto the plane just to keep them cared for and entertained so they don't disturb others around them. I can imagine now that all the airlines are imposing these fees just to check a single bag there isn't enough room in the overheads to hold everyone's luggage anymore. I'll be honest, if I were flying an airline with these silly fees I'd be jamming everything I own into carry-ons and making my boys haul their luggage thru the terminal and onto the plane. Please, Mr. Airline, just raise the ticket price by $40 and be done with it.

We haven't yet booked our flights for our December trip. We're still unsure who we'll be flying. Our choices are Southwest (no fees but you have the cattle-call boarding process and no resort airline check-in) or Continental 1st class (3 checked bags per person included & resort airline check-in but very, very pricy). We won't even consider Delta, American, or any of the other carriers. After you pay all the baggage fees it's just not worth it.

Obviously you've never been a victim of "misrouted" checked baggage for a long period of time. How about viewing yourself as lucky, and not just jumping to thinking the worst of everyone else?

I'd rather them just raise the fares of the ticket than to initiate a fee that they will never get rid of. Its kinda like taxes... once you have a revenue stream, you don't voluntarily get rid of it. That kind of a surcharge is a real quick way to get on the public's bad side.

Read the following from the Orlando Sentinel article

Delta Air Lines, one of the busiest (though also fastest-shrinking) carriers at Orlando International Airport

For those Disney travelers who are already booked on Delta that are going to be affected by these rates, I really feel for you. I hope you get vocal and/or write to Delta to let them know your displeasure for the extra $50 per round trip for a second bag... not to mention the fee for the first checked bag.

Delta doesn't charge for the first checked bag. They "believe that the first checked bag is part of the service provided associated with the price of a ticket,"

Now I do feel sorry for whomever is effected by the second bag charge. $100 round trip is a lot of money!

Delta doesn't want the business of Disney guests so I doubt they'll care. The reason they are pulling out of Orlando is that there is no real money to be made on those routes. The vast majority of travelers on them are extremely price conscience and the airlines have to slash rates to compete for them, making it difficult to come out ahead in the end. They'd much rather run the business routes with things the way they are now.

I have been the victim of lost luggage ((or as the airline stated it wasn't lost, it was just in a different city than me)). I didn't mean for that to sound like I was being judgemental. I apologize if I offended. I just always thought that if every passenger on every plane was avoiding checking anything and puting all their belongings in the overheads there wouldn't be enough room. When I was a kid it was explained to me that overheads were for things you couldn't be without or were fragile such as diaper bags or medications or, in my brother's case on one trip when we were teens, a big prized fish that he caught and my dad had mounted for him. I don't think the worst of everyone else carrying their luggage onboard automatically. I've talked with other travelers. A lot of the ones I've spoken with told me they just hate taking the time to go to baggage claim. It concerns me that with the new checked baggage fees there could be a situation where someone who genuinely needs their bags accessible to them in-flight might not have the space they need. That's all. Again, sorry if I offended. I was just always instructed since I was a kid that if you didn't need something while you were in flight on the airplane it should be stowed properly in the cargo hold along with everyone else's stuff.
