Decision makers

Who in the Disney organization has the authority to make the decisions on major attractions, expansions, or canceling a planned project? For example: who actually decided Splash Mountain should be made over, EPCOT expansions will be scaled back, Mary Poppins was canceled, or SE makeover delayed? Is there an executive board or is it strictly Bob?

Are you just looking for someone to blame, or are you out for revenge? 🤣

Like any large organization it depends on the internal politics and budgets related to specific projects.

Something like Splash is clearly coming from the very top of the organization. Canceling refurbs or scaling back existing projects are probably the result of some management layer being told to trim xx% from their budget. Some projects have champions at various executive levels, some only exist because they fill a business need. I’m sure it’s all over the map, and Bob isn’t making all of these calls in the slightest even if he does drive the overall tone and culture that results in them.

In this day and age I dont think any company would have one individual making THE decision to end or change anything. Company leaders may propose ideas and changes and then hand them off to a group of others to assess the positives and negatives of how they affect the profitability of the company. Its become a CYA world and no one individual wants to put themselves out there risking their standing by making the call. Having multiple groups, studies, stats and data recommending the changes creates a nice buffer from blame when its revealed to be wrong. Very seldom does the top leaders suffer consequences. When its right of course the main guys stand up for the accolades.
