December 2016 Trip Questions

I have a few questions that may or may not sound silly. The mister and I will be going to Orlando in December with us visiting Disney World December 3rd and 4th. The 3rd we are planning on doing a little park hopping but thought we would do the Christmas party on the 4th.
1st question is do they open the gates for party ticket holders at 4pm like they do MNSSHP? Also, how long does MK typically stay open on party nights?
2nd: How are crowds normally in the beginning of December and what on average are the temps?
3rd: (this doesn't have anything to do with the party) I have heard about people "resort hopping". Are guests staying off property able to do this or is it for resort guests only.

1. You can enter the MK at 4 p.m. with a MVMCP ticket. The party goes until midnight.
2. Disney (especially MK) is always busy anymore. Early December should have average size crowds; less than later in the month. Temperatures can range from the 80s to the 60s. 70s are the norm.
3. Anyone can resort hop ~ you don't need to be a Disney resort guest.

Early Dec used to be light crowds but not any more. More and more guests are booking trips in early Dec in hopes of seeing the Christmas displays and avoiding the heavy holiday crowds. You will be better off going on your dates, but expect some lines at the attractions. You may have some overflow guests from their Thanksgiving week stays. Be sure you bring along a sweatshirt or light jacket just in case you need it. Weve encountered fairly warm days... then its progressed into chilly evenings. The CM's will be wearing heavy jackets and gloves. The pools might be uncomfortable but the hot tubs will be great.
Definitely resort hop and look around. It gives you a glimpse at their unique set ups and holiday decorations. Art of Animation is a fabulous place to walk around and see the character areas. Its been one of our favorite resorts to hop to. Great photo ops.

I've gone at the beginning of December several times. I've gone to the water parks and I've had to buy a hat and gloves because it dropped into the 30's at night. It's a toss up.
