Dec. packing questions

Hello everyone. It has been several years since I've been to WDW and I use to overpack like crazy! I just can't remember which clothes I needed most when we were there.

About a year ago I switched to nearly underpacking when I was flying every few weeks to see my now DH.

We'll be there Dec. 15-22nd. (We're flying to Dallas to see my parents and drive there and back with them, so we'll be gone 11-26th.)

We'll have a washer/dryer there, so I was thinking 2 jeans, 3 t'shirts, a sweatshirt, 3-6 pairs of socks and underwear, and 2 pairs of shoes as far as clothes. (This is including what I'd be wearing to travel in.)

Is that too little? Also, I know weather can vary quite a bit. Would most people be too warm wearing jeans the whole time? I don't want to bring shorts, but will bring capris if there is a really good likelyhood that jeans will be too hot. If this is the case, should I bring the capris in addition to the 2 pairs of jeans or in lieu of one of the pairs?

Any suggestions are GREATLY appreciated!

I think you should pack a mid-weight jacket and gloves/mittens just in case. It could be very cold. Bring the capris in addition to the jeans.

I would also bring a longsleeve shirt. The best is to have a bunch of layers. It can be freezing or it can be warm. It just depends on what the weather decides to do. The best suggestion is to pack for both weather in the upper 40s (late nights may get down to this) and weather in the 70s.

Layers. Plan on having layers for december because the day might start our nice in the low 70's and then by late afternoon in the 60's and by night time in the 50's. I've seen far too many folks freezing and running in the shops to buy the $40 sweatshirt to go over the other stuff they are wearing. I know last year I started out with a t-shirt on, then my sweatshirt and then my coat in one day.

I would also go on the weather channel website before you leave and do the 10 day forecast to get an idea of the temps and also to see if any fronts are moving in that could bring the cold.

Also remember when you are out all day long it's much different than going from the car to a store or restaurant.

How often do you expect to do laundry?

Rule of thumb for us is one outfit for each day at the parks + 1, plus some warmer layers - but then you need to factor in the number of times you will do laundry.

So if we are going to be there 8 days, and plan on doing laundry once in the middle of the week, I would bring 5 outfits/changes of clothes.

If you plan on riding Kali River Rapids or Splash Mtn, I'd bring something other than jeans. Go ahead and throw the debated pair of capris in your suitcase.

We leave in 18 days. I was planning on just packing jeans tea-shirts and sweatshirts. I figured the sun sets at about 530 now so that doesn't leave much time for the warmer temps. I am planning on being fine in jeans in the 70's. We did this at Valleyfair if September and it worked out well. Besides I don't need to scare anyone with my boo white legs.:ROFLOL:

If you have the room Its better to take too much - winter in Florida seems to run a variety of temperatures - I'd pack to try and cover every eventuality

My wife says to bring at least three pairs of jeans, one of which you can wear out for a nice dinner in case you want to do that.

Also bring two pairs of shorts. It can get into the mid 80's here in December and with the sun beating down on you, it can feel like August without the humidity.

I suggest bringing a t-shirt for each day no matter than you can do laundry. You never know when you might go through two shirts in a day due to spills, sweat, or just bad luck with dirtiness.

I take a light windbreaker from Old Navy. They pack small and are great for the evenings when it gets a bit chilly. Also look into a sweat suit (do they call them that anymore?) and a maybe two long sleeve shirts, or a light sweater in case the temp drops.

Oh, don't forget a raincoat or something similar. We get all day rain every now and then during December. You can bring one, or buy a poncho!

As for socks and unmentionables, bring what you need!

Have fun.

I use the same size suitcase packing for a December 4 day trip as I do for a August 10 day trip. It has been warm enough to swim and go to the water park in December and later that night we're in a coat and mittens that night. My son is a big fan of zip off pants. He has zip off cargo pants and zip off nylon warm up pants. He starts in the shorts with the legs in his pocket, (or my bag) then zips on as it get colder.
