Dec 30th MK... What's the possibility/history of Phased Closings?

Ok, nothing booked or set in stone yet... But looking at the possibility of being in Disney World briefly in late December. I know this is a crazy busy time and we will definitely not be trying to go on New Years Eve, but... I would LOVE to be able to experience the midnight fireworks and I know that they usually do them on the 30th as well as the 31st.

What is the history of MK closing on this date? Has it in the past? What would be the likelyness of it being closed phase 4 by the evening of Dec 30th?

If we go we will not be staying in a resort but will have a hopper ticket, which I know lets you in up to phase 2 I believe? So I am looking at having a dining reservation to get to stage 3 (and eat, we won't just be using it to get to stage 3!)- do you think this would be enough?

I have some experience with Dec 31st. Magic Kingdom went into phase closure about 11am!!!! I had no problem driving over to the Studios to see Mulch, Sweat & Shears ring in the New Year. The Studios really wasnt bad at all until much later in the day but I had heard MK and EPCOT were a disaster. Sorry I couldnt help more. Marie

Thanks.. Yes I had thought as much about the 31st, crazy!
That's why I'm wondering about the 30th, as MK usually does the same midnight fireworks that they'll do the next night. So I'm wondering if I can see the NYE fireworks without the crowds of the 31st!

Here's last year's thread, if you're interested. Looks like MK hit phase 2 around 11:30, and reopened by 1:10pm.

Thanks for that link. Yikes! I may have to rethink this then... Although it did reopen. Hmm. I guess I've got time to plan!
