Dec 3 - 12

I will do my best just to give the highlights though it will kill me to be brief :) I was traveling with my 4 year old daughter Michelle.

Drove down Friday 12/3. Left late and stopped several times along the way so didn't get to WDW till about 9:00. Checked in at AS Music. Quick check-in which was nice, our rooms were in building 5 in the Country Fair. Bad news is it was Pop Warner week and the entire parking lot on the right side of the resort was full. So I drove around and parked by building 6 where there were lots of empty spaces. Our room was the farthest from the elevators on the 3rd floor. A bit of a hike from the bus stop but nice and quiet once we got there.

Saturday we slept in then headed to MGM. Bought a Pal Mickey as we entered the park. Our first stop was the Magic of Disney Animation to meet the Incredibles. When we were at WDW last summer they didn't have anything after the little presentation with Mushu so the whole interactive area was new to us. Saw Mr. Incredible, Elastigirl and Frozone. That was very cool.

Met up with the WDWMagic gang at the RnR but didn't do the rides. I used my daughter as my excuse but really I'm a wimp and wouldn't have ridden even if I was by myself! Sorry guys. Instead we went and watched the Beauty and the Beast stage show. It is great! Four for a $ were fantastic too - I meant to buy their CD but forgot. Then we watched the Hollywood Holly Days parade and went to the IJSS. The show was great but the best part was the firey explosions because we were COLD! Who knew it was going to be coat and gloves weather (at least for us from NC!)

After the show we went to 50s PTC and met up with the meet people again. You would think that with Disney pushing the Grand Gatherings theme, the restaurants would have a better plan for seating large groups together. Instead we ended up in different rooms. Michelle and I sat with ClemsonTigger and KevinPage and his wife and daughter. Our server was Uncle Tim who was the same server my husband and I got on our trip in August. What I ate for dinner escapes me at this moment but I had the smore's for dessert. Yummy - but made with 16 marshmellows which is way too many for one person. So I didn't finish it, but still probably ate more than my yearly quota of marshmellows.

After dinner we headed to the Osborne lights. But I somehow went in the wrong direction and ended up having to turn around. Lost the whole group. The lights were amazing. You can totally see why the Osborne's neighbors complained!

Sunday I had scheduled a wake up call. I was not happy to be awakened to Stitch screaming in my ear. I love the Mickey wake up calls, but the rest of the trip we used the alarm clock if we needed to wake up early. At 9:40 we had breakfast with Mary Poppins at 1900 Park Faire. I underestimated how long it would take to get there using Disney transportation so we were late but it was no problem. Lots of empty tables in the restaurant. After breakfast we headed to the MK. Rode the train around and started in MTTF. Saw Mickey in the Judge's tent and were introduced to the terrific idea of the Photo Pass. That's great.

Made it as far as Fantasyland and were surprised to see some random character greetings - Max, Pinocchio and Donald were there next to Mrs. Potts'. Poor Max - people don't know who he is! I even heard one person tell their child: "look, there's Mickey's son!" Aaargh.

Rode the Carrousel and Snow White then used FPs for Philharmagic. We ended up sitting in the very front row which is way too close for me. The 3D glasses give me a headache if I sit closer than the middle of the theater. But the show is still great. Got FPs for PP then went to meet Ariel. The wait was pretty long (for a character). We were almost to the front of the line, after having waited about 30 minutes and some women behind me were talking about the "attraction." No kids, just three 50-something women. I don't usually butt in but said to them, "you do know this is just the line to meet Ariel, right? There's no ride or anything." And they didn't believe me!!! One of them said, "oh, I'm sure there's a ride." I showed them on the park map that its just a character greeting area. Another one of them said, "no, there's a theater in there and a show." Aaargh. We finally got up to where the CM was waiting and they asked her about the "attraction." She of course told them exactly what I'd told them. One of the women said, "isn't there a Little Mermaid show somewhere?" and the CM told her it was at MGM. So these ladies who had no desire to meet Ariel left the line after waiting about 40 minutes. Nitwits. Can't people read park maps??

Saw the Sword in the Stone ceremony on our way to Cosmic Ray's for dinner. Sat in the lounge and had Sonny Eclipse entertain us while we ate. Then back to Fantasyland to use our FPs on Peter Pan before leaving the park which was closing at 6 for MVMCP. Rode the bus back to ASMu and decided to call it a night.

part two

I really am leaving out whole paragraphs of info here, I have no clue why this is so long!

Monday morning we checked out of the ASMu and went over to the CBR. We got there at 11:00 and they had our room ready. Building 43 in Jamaica. Nice and close to the parking lot. It was a warm day so we went to the main pool and swam for a while. Then we ate in the food court and went back to the hotel where Michelle took a nap. At 5:00 we went to MGM just to watch Fantasmic! We got seats about halfway up in the middle section - since we were there 90 minutes early! Dinner was hotdogs and snacks from the concession stand. After the show we rode the bus back to CBR. I am 99% certain I saw Invero (Tyler) standing outside one of the busses as we walked by - but he was busy so I didn't stop to say hi.

Tuesday we slept in. Michelle felt a little feverish so I gave her some Motrin and we took it easy all morning. We walked around the resort and played at the beach. Headed to the MK about 5:00 where we got our wristbands for MVMCP. I had PSs for 'Ohana at 5:40 but decided I didn't want to leave the park. Instead we went to LTT and I asked them if they had room for us. Forgot to ask how long the wait would be. We ended up waiting an hour and 20 minutes. After an hour I asked a CM if she could give me an idea of how long the wait was, she went and checked and said they'd called me a half hour earlier. Well, I was sitting in the lobby the whole time and know for sure they had NOT called me. Michelle's fever was back with a vengance and she didn't feel much like eating.

After dinner I took her over to the First Aid center. They took her temperature: 104.8. Yikes. They gave her Motrin and offered to call the shuttle to get me to Florida Urgent Care. Michelle tends to run high fevers though and she wasn't complaining of any other symptoms so I didn't go. Instead I let the Motrin kick in and she slept for two hours in the stroller while I watched the parade. She woke up feeling much better in time to see Wishes. I had brought my tripod because I am determined to get a picture of Tinkerbell and was disappointed she didn't fly in the show that night!

We went to Adventureland to get our picture taken. We almost didn't do it because the line was so long, but the CM assured me it moved fast. And it did. We only waited maybe 10 minutes. Then we went and got our cocoa and cookies and sat in Frontierland to watch the parade again. Then we went home. I can't believe how many things I missed! I will have to do MVMCP again sometime! The bus ride home was efficient and our bus driver was very funny.

Wednesday Michelle was still feverish so I took her to the Urgent Care clinic. Turns out they accept my insurance so I didn't have to pay for the office visit. Just the prescription for her throat infection. The doctor said she could do anything she felt up to doing, just not to let her share drinks with anyone. So we went to AK. We didn't get there till 3:00 though, so just had time to watch the parade and walk through the Maharajah Jungle Trek. I haven't made it that far into the park on any previous visit. I was overwhelmed by the fantastic setting on the MJT. You absolutely feel like you are in the ruins of a Cambodian palace.

Thursday was our much coveted breakfast with Cinderella! Woke up to the alarm (no Stitch for me this morning, thanks) and got to the bus stop by 8:05 but it took us till 8:40 to get to the MK. Met WannaBeBelle (Marie) and her friends and headed to the castle. We got in line to meet the Fairy Godmother but had only waited about five minutes when they called us up for our table. I'm still not completely sure why the CRT breakfast is so hard to get. The food was good - and the cream cheese french toast fritters were worth the whole price of the meal! Belle, Mary Poppins, Aladdin, Aurora and Cinderella visited us.

After breakfast Marie and her friends went off to ride big people rides while Michelle and I headed to Tomorrowland. Got FPs for Buzz, then rode the TTA and the CoP. We had a decent sized group in our theater. I noticed a lot of technical problems with the AAs. On a couple of scenes the main characters eyes weren't blinking and it was quite freaky. On another scene his neck "skin" was all messed up and it spoiled the realistic effect. But Michelle liked the CoP and was singing along with the song.

Rode Buzz then rode the TS. Got a much better car this time than the last time we drove - it didn't hurt my leg to press down the gas pedal! Michelle had a great time so it was worth riding.

Went to the Fairytale Garden for Storytime with Belle. I got mixed up and thought it would be the Christmas storytime but it was the regular one. Still a fun break while we ate our Mickey ice cream bars. Then we headed down Main Street and did a little shopping before getting on the monorail to Epcot.

Got to Epcot at 4:00 and rode SSE. Then we went straight back to USA for our CP package seating. The reserved seating line was really long and the standby line was unbelieveable. They seated us about 10 minutes before the show started. We got great seats in the middle of the theater. Marlee Matlin was our narrator. I admit that when I heard she was going to be there the night I was there I was skeptical. But it was amazing to have the narration done in ASL. Though the voice was that of her interpreter - a man - you really could "hear" her doing the narration. It added a whole other dimension to the show. I was awed by the show. I can see why people come back year after year. It was phenomenal.

Our dinner package included a meal at the Garden Grill so we headed back there. The gratuity was included in the price and I wonder if that's why the service wasn't very good. The food was okay but I got a little queasy from the rotation of the restaurant. Once we finished eating we headed back to the hotel.

part three - the end

Friday it was time for our last resort hop. Checked out of the CBR which was painless because of express check out and headed to the Dolphin. It was a nightmare. There's no check-in parking area, and the portico in front of the lobby was a traffic nightmare. We ended up parking in the main lot then walking back to the hotel. The check-in desk was also mobbed. Terrible signage, the only way you can tell it's the place to check in is by asking other people in line. But the worker (not a CM!) behind the counter was friendly. I told her I needed a fridge in my room because of Michelle's antibiotic and she said they'd send one up. She upgraded us to a lake view room which was nice.

Our room was on the 8th floor of the west wing, with a great view of MGM. We took our stuff upstairs then headed to Epcot. I decided to walk along the Boardwalk which was nice. We went in the International Gateway and I headed straight for the Fish 'n Chips booth. After we ate it started to sprinkle so we went into the UK shops. Michelle started her Kidcot mask, and we decided to make finishing that our mission for the day. So pretty much for the next few hours we just went from country to country getting her mask stamped and decorated. We did ride El Rio del Tiempo and Maelstrom, watched the Chinese acrobats and saw the American Adventure show - which I think is one of the best attractions at WDW. We also got to see Santa at USA

A scary thing happened as we were leaving Morocco. We stopped to use the restroom and there was a group of Disney security grouped around someone lying on the ground, and several people all dressed up stading with them. Then we went into the women's restroom and there was blood everywhere on the floor in front of the sinks, and in one of the stalls. As we were leaving there was a CM turning people away from the restroom. A janitorial CM came in and started to sweep up some of the paper towels that had been put on the ground to cover up the blood. The CM at the door stopped her and said she should just not touch any of it, that it needed to be cleaned up by someone specific. As we were walking away the person who'd been hurt (I have no clue what happened) was wheeled away on a gurney. It was very unsettling. Fortunately Michelle didn't seem to notice any of it.

We finished the mask in France and walked back to the Dolphin past the Y&B. I am definitely going to stay there someday!

Saturday morning we slept in then went back to Epcot. First we headed to FW and the Living Seas. I love the movie and the hydrolators! The line to see Crush was really long. I asked a CM how long the wait was and he said probably at least 30 minutes, maybe even 45. Michelle didn't want to wait in line, so instead we looked around Seabase Alpha at our old favorites: the manatees and the dolphins. Then we headed back to WS.

First we saw Papa Noel in Canada. Then we went to the UK and saw Father Christmas before going in to see Piglet, Eeyore and Rabbit. Since we'd done all the Kidcot things with the mask the day before we decided to try to see all the Holiday Storytellers we could that day. I was mad at myself for not knowing that Off Kilter doesn't perform on Friday or Saturday - the two days I'd planned for Epcot! So I missed them!

One of the reasons I'd planned my visit for this time of year was to go to the AllEarsNet.com MouseFest Mega Mouse Meet. I swear it was supposed to be at 3:00 at the Dolphin. But at 2:30 I called my teenage daughter at home and had her check online for the specific location. Turns out the MMM was at 1:00 at the Swan! So I immediately headed back to the Swan (I was in China!) and got there about 2:55. Aaargh! I did get to meet Bob Schellinger, author of the Unofficial Guide, that was cool. And I stopped and visited for a while with the authors of Making Memories, Josh and Dann. I had filled out the survey for their 2005 edition and they told me I am "quoted extensively" in the book! So that is something cool to look forward to! I just can't believe I got the time wrong on that.

Michelle slept in her stroller through the whole adventure, and when we got back to Epcot we continued on our quest for the holiday storytellers. We saw a few minutes of the Norway story, but there were too many people and Michelle couldn't see, so we moved on. The China Monkey King was ending his show just as the Times Guide said it was supposed to begin, so we missed that too. But we did get to Germany in time for theirs which was really good. We also got to see Michelle's favorite character, Snow White.

We ended the night by watching Illuminations. It was great. I cried during the Holiday finale where the music is "Let there be peace on earth." It was just an incredibly moving addition to an already amazing show.

Sunday morning we checked out then stopped at DTD for a couple hours befre heading home.

Oh there's so much more I could tell you but this is way too long already. We had pin-trading adventures and saw lots of fun characters (Darkwing Duck!) and ate lots of yummy food that I didn't even mention. But thanks for sticking with me through this whole long report!!
