Dec. 23-29th Hotel Question

So my family is considering taking a trip to Orlando from the 23rd to the 29th to spend Christmas with relatives and to partake of Disney and Universal. The travel party consists of myself, my mother, grandmother, brother, and sister. My mother hasn't been to Disney in around 3-4 years, my brother and grandmother in almost a decade, and my sister traveled with me this February (I go at least once a year). We're looking to keep costs down, but still stay on site at WDW.

Between the time of year and the fact we have five members of our travel party, hotel options are a little all over the place.

I normally stay at Pop Century when I travel - I like the dedicated bus line and rarely spend time in the room, so I don't need much in terms of aesthetics. I also normally go during off-peak times, and have never been during the holiday season.

Right now, I see two options for staying on property:

One room at Port Orleans Riverside, which is going for around $298 a night.
Getting two rooms at Pop Century, coming in at 382 a night.

Does anyone have any insight into Riverside? While I've stayed at many hotels on property, that's never been one of them.

I know that the rooms at POR say that they can hold five, but one of those five needs to be a young child...not five adults.
This^^^^^. Five adults cannot share a room at POR, or at any value or moderate resort. You must go deluxe (or DVC) if you want to stay together. Another option is the family suites at All Star Music or Art of Animation. The suites can accommodate your party.

I agree with what others have said about POR. That 5th bed just isn't big enough to help you squeeze 5 adults into one room.

Your least expensive option would be 2 rooms at a Value resort.
