It makes complete sense to me to have a forum on Walt the Man, separate from the company. It may not be as active daily, but still worth differentiating and discussing.

Walt's life is worth discussing.

I still don't understand why people on this forum get mean about threads that are posted. They have titles, and no one forces you to read them. But I personally like the freedom of choice.

Anyway, in this case, I think such a forum heading would allow for more academic discussions of Walt's life: how he made it (succeeded, that is; not the imagineering of a ride), what he said about certain things, why he did what he did. Not interesting to everyone, but definitely worthwhile. From this you better understand WDW and the company.

I would also not mind some discussion of the rumors (cryogenics, etc, -- didn't happen) and negative things that people might have to say or to question, as long as it is fair. We could dispell rumors and learn from each other about the facts.

Anyway, it is a good idea.

I find it degrading that we need a board about this. This IS WALD DISNEY Company. If we have gotten so far away from the first 2/3 of that title, then we need more than a board to help us.

In some ways this is sad, but you know, TestTrack: We can't expect people in a company to all represent a man. They are busy with their own lives and current challenges and dreams.

Walt's life was not his company. It should be separate, and that is not a slam at either the man or the company that bears his name. Just the way you have a personal life that is interesting and definitive of you the way that no group of coworkers or friends could ever adequately reproduce. It's what makes you, you; and Walt was blessed enough to be a successful and public figure. His personal legacy is worth studying, at least by fans of his work (even if those who work in his name may not always know or care).

Dispite my initial post, I would not mind a discussion board about Walt. I think it would have the possibility of being very informative about a man who did so much - much of it before the parks (how often some of us forget that, including myself).

My concern would be that individuals would use this board as a place to post opinions such as "Walt would have done this" or "this is not what Walt would have done." This would open up a board that could have interesting discussions about an interesting man to grossly overstated opinions, and thereby arguments and flaming. We tend to have too much of that, as it is.

My initial reaction was probably more to the way Grizz started the topic, with his "sign my petition" approach. If he had started with a poll, a simple "how do you feel" thread, or addressing the subject in the "Website Feedback/Comments" thread, I probably would not have had such an initial negative reaction.
