Deals Historically?

In past years, what month do they typically release deals and specials for late January/early February?

I know a couple years ago we got the stay 5 nights get 2 free at a value resort for our January 2010 trip but I can't remember what month is was released. I just remember I booked the trip the day it came out.

We're hoping to go in late January 2012 or early February 2012. I noticed tonight I can search prices for 2012 already but I'm wondering how long I have to wait before they possible release deals.

The chart at this link from Mousesavers should help you.

It looks like last year, some package discounts for January-February were released in August, and another batch of room only discounts were released just before Thanksgiving.

Historical discount release dates have been pretty useless for the past 7 or 8 months, IMO. It's like Disney realized they had become predictable so they had to change things up. Since late last year lots if not all the discounts have been released at non-historical times & in odd order. It's made folks have to stay on-point. Lol! I've adopted a wait and see approach because there's just no telling.

Quite correct. Disney has really ripped up the play book in the last couple of years. I have no doubt that the trend will continue.

When we went in January a few years ago the deal we got came out in November or at least that is when I heard of it!!

But its true Disney seems to be keeping people on their toes lately! :)

IMO, looking at the information of historical dates, even though there are only 3 1/2 years of data points, there are some statistical markers.

In reviewing the data of several samples, I am going to predict that Free Dining for dates from 9/27/11 - 12/19/2011 will be offered to the general public next Wednesday, July 6th. +/- 2 days.

If you book a package and then a month later, a deal is released...can you call and change your room/tickets to get the deal if it costs less?

Right now, what I'm looking at is about $1414. The exact thing cost $1212 in 2010. I know it's two years later...but I was really hoping to find it close to that price still. Wishful thinking, I suppose.

I've always had good luck in getting them to honor better deals after booking.

Providing that you are not inside the cancellation period (45 day for packages or 5 days for rooms only) yes. Inside the cancellation period and you might have to pay a change fee. You might have to switch resorts depending on availability but more often than not that is not necessary.

Also, if you're inside the cancellation window, they typically don't charge a fee if you're upgrading, only downgrading.

At least, that's been my experience.

Agreed. They're playing around with discounts right now. I wouldn't count on anything. The best bet is to make your reservation, take the first discount that comes out, and hope for something better. Disney's really pushing the "back to rack" mentality right now. I think it's premature and that it will bite them in the rump, but they are apparently willing to take a hit.

Thanks, everyone. I think $1414 is still pretty good for 2 adults, 7 nights (value hotel), and 7-day park hoppers. But of course, I liked $1212 in 2010 much better. :) I'll be waiting until probably September or so to book so maybe something will show up by then.

Where is the best place to keep checking for deals? The official site? I just want to make sure I bookmark it so I can check often.

You're posting on it! We have some very knowledgeable people here who often know the discounts before they're officially announced on the Disney site.
