Dead Skipper Cruise

Isn't that where they would turn off all of the animatronics and sounds.. leaving the skipper to navigate a "dead" jungle? I always that sounded like fun...

I have never heard of this. Doesn't sound like something Disney would really want to show off to guests. I would assume it would be some sort of CM type thing.

I heard its the last ride of the night and cast members play dead on a boat and they try to scare guests while trying to get the skipper of the boat carrying guests to see what kind of reaction they will come up with.

It's a prank on a new skipper done by the other skippers on the last tour of the evening. It's to challenge the new skipper's creativity, since he has to explain to the Guests what's going on without breaking character or the Magic (nobody dies at Disney).

I remember when I was a CM, we went on a last ride of the night with a Skipper friend. We spent the majority of the time firing the gun (sound) and going forward, backing up, going forward. Also, we timed it perfectly so when the time came for the elephant to spray, it ended up all over in the boat. We also turned all the lights off for the majority of the ride. Best Jungle Cruise ride of my life!!

The Dead Skipper joke is still around, but definately not an official joke that is suppose to be used, but fun do to anyways. As mentioned earlier, it is where a skipper plays dead on a boat. A fun way to do it is to position the boats so that an empty boat with the "dead skipper" is on one side of Schwitzer Falls as another boat with guest passes on the other side. It is funny to have the "alive" skipper not mention it and all the guests expect something and the skipper carries on like everything is fine.

It's more fun if the dead skipper is coming from the attacking natives heading for backside of water and you're coming up on Schwitzer.-- then you can play it off as if ya really don't wanna go on ahead cause it might be dangerous.

BTW, the "dead skipper" happens almost every single night, multiple times a night.

I remember seeing this once late night on Jungle Cruise - I ride it at least once every trip hoping to laugh that hard again. So far no luck. Seems to be a bit more prevalent at night?

From what I've heard this is only done on the last cruise of the day.

It's much more common than you'd think. Usually night time is the time it happens because there's no one in line--and, therefore, no one to put on boats--which results in a dead cruise and possibly a dead skipper.

Oh really, I am going to check this out. I bet this how it came to mind. One of the girls here listens to Disney Podcasts.
