Dead magic band

How long does it take a magic band's battery to die? I have some magic bands I bought in January and I was wondering if they would still work? Also would I have to wait until I get to Disney to see if they work? What if they died while I was there would they replace them or would I have to buy another one?

1. All touch point locations will always work. That feature never "dies" because the battery has nothing to do with it.
2. Long-range features (ride customization, ride photos, etc.) require the battery, which usually lasts at least a year and probably up to two.

So if the battery dies, you have to do the touch the sensor thing to get ride pictures. Rides like the Seven Dwarfs, the pictures/videos will not be automatically available then. I am assuming that you can call Disney, and give them the date and approximate time you were on the ride, and would still be able to retrieve the pictures/videos.

Phoning wouldn't work as many people will have ridden at that approximate time & they wouldn't be able to identify you as this is done visually. Same for photos from Photopass photographer's.

However if you go to one of the photo booths they can retrieve it & add it for you, exactly as they would if the system failed to load it onto working bands as happened to us on test track. This can be done upto 48hrs later, sometimes more than that, but is better done at the earliest opportunity. These can be found at the front of all the parks & in the lobby of most if not all Disney hotels & there is a centre at Disney Springs.

Once you have left Disney there is virtually no chance of retrieving any photo's or on ride video shot by Disney camera's or photographer's especially as the retention period is limited, more so at busy times for obvious reasons.
