DDP credit use

I know I'm going to get some negativity from this but oh well. We have a good friend who works for Disney and when we go down he spends most of our vacation with us, even using his vacation days. He has helped with discounts etc. We like to treat him to nice dinners out while there with our credits and have never had a problem, even with our card saying 3 adults and we are paying for 4.

It sounds like this year it will be more of a problem. Anyone have any experience with buying more TS credits than your card says? I know, I know the rules have changed or at least are being enforced. We end up spending more cash on food but it's our way of treating a dear friend. Any suggestions on how we are able to use our credits to buy for a friend as we have in the past?

Budget for cash out of pocket for his meals to be safe.

Honestly I have to say that if everyone played by the rules then perhaps we would not be staring down the barrel of such huge price increases and some who care (not me) would not have to endure the audacity of plain napkins. I know everyone says "it's not a big deal" but, it is when you compound this sort of thing by thousands of guests who bend the rules. This is not being critical of you in any way as I totally understand wanting to get the most bang for your vacation buck but there is a bigger picture to be looked at than just one guest.

I am not sure what the issue would be, on the dining plan your TS credits is based upon the number of nights plus the number of adults. So if have 3 adults and are staying for 6 nights that will give you 18 TS credits to use how you wish. You could use them all on the first night and Disney does not care. So unless I am missing something you should not have a problem. The system will not let you have more credits than you have purchased and number purchased is tied to the number of nights you have purchased.

It can't be done because the DDP brochure clearly states that credits can not be used for those not on the DDP. Which OP acknowledges, but chooses to break the rule, anyway. The reason the rule is now more uniformly enforced is because servers were being reprimanded when they allowed a guest to use their credits for others not on the plan. From the brochure:

You may not redeem meals or snacks for any Guests who are not on your Disney Dining Plan.

We have always done this in the past and never had an issue. Have heard that it is an issue now. We have 30 TS credits and it should be up to us if we want to use for 4 people over 7-8 meals and paying cash for other dinners or doing 3 people over 10 meals. Disney will get more money out of us anyway. We are not trying to cheat Disney out of money. People sharing QS meals instead of everyone getting their own costs Disney money. We were going to add him to our reservation but instead of costing just the ticket at. $300 it was over $500. Wanted to buy him the DDP for the week and Disney said we all had to do the same package. Again not trying to cheat Disney out of money in anyway. Just know our friend can't pay $45 for a meal and he won't let us pay cash for him. Not going to feel right with him sitting outside while we go eat a good meal. We are still buying several breakfast buffet meals over the stay that we are paying cash for when he is at work so Disney will have that cash instead.

A few options. If you are already planning on paying cash for some meals, you could change which you are paying cash for, so that you use credits then, and pay cash when he is with you. Or, since you will need to have them run your KTTW anyway to validate the DDP, as well as pay for the tip, you can simply pay for his meal at the same time, most likely fairly discretely.

We can't Afford to pay for his meals out of cash either, especially when holiday prices hit. Not paying like $50 for Biergarten or Liberty Tree on Christmas and Christmas Eve. They are our credits and if we choose to pay cash for other meals so we have enough credits for the others it should be our choice. Dont see how this is costing Disney so much money that we ruin it for everyone and cause higher prices and sharing meals to avoid paying for other meals is not? I doubt Disney likes it when people share counter service so you can get 2 meals out of one. We have 33 meals and should be able to get 33 meals. Not trying to get 40 meals out of 33.

There are reasons for rules. Very likely that there is a model that Disney uses that includes dining plan being used by registered guests bringing income in other areas (retail, etc). By allowing credits to be used by non registered guests, they lose out on this income.
