Heard some rumblings but they were all blue sky and more than likely not 100% accurate and I do not want to post false information. If the rumors are correct it will be a change for the better.

Well, the information posted here on the forums back when the 2008 Dining Plan changes were coming out is that they'll be adding an 18% gratuity to *all* DDE meals, and not just those that are above the large-group limit that adds the tip to any meal.
This point was supposedly a trade-off by Disney for removing the included tip from the 2008 DDP. Also as a trade-off was Disney lowering the group size where a tip gets added in automatically. It was lowered from a group of 8 to a group of 6.

What the heck? I don't see how DDE and the dining plan are even related. Why should annual passholders be forced to tip 18% at every meal?

I guess I shouldn't complain if that is true. I usually tip over 20%, so if they don't want all my money then fine.

When I called to renew my DDE I was told by a CM that changes to the DDE would be announced in November. She said that she couldn't give me any specifics about the changes and when I tried to get some info out of her, she stated that the announcement would be made in November.

I'll be keeping my fingers crossed then! I only just bought my DDE.

I believe negotiations with the servers union....

Yup. Disney went into the negotiations saying "we're removing the included tip from the DDP". The servers union said "well, what are you going to give us in exchange for it?", and lowering the automatic gratuity group size and adding the tip to all DDE meals were the concessions that Disney made in that deal.

While their tips may go down from DDP diners stiffing them on the tips, I'm sure it'll at least increase the tips of the servers from DDE meals... (I've heard that MANY people tip on the final bill price and not the pre-discount price, which is what you SHOULD be doing.)

Or make it easy and just pay the pre-discount total, which would give them a 20% tip. :)

Well, if a Disney server earns a 20% tip, they'll get it. Which, in my experience, has sadly been few and far between.

And I am not tipping that much for a buffet. They can kiss my butt and get transfered to another location if they want more money. If my food doesn't come to me you're not getting 20%.

Just wanted to add, i usually tip higher then 20% for good servers - but if it's already included, well, that's less math for me and they get paid less.. so sad.. sucks to be greedy.

You and I both, but in my experience tips are usually lower than 18%. Many still use 15 as their guideline and when they do the math the round off down...

So, it's likely that the servers will end up ahead overall.

Maybe not because we DDE people are not your average guest and if we are "forced" to pay 18% for sub-par service, you can bet that we will be complaining right to restaurant management, as well as posted here on the boards. We as a group tend to be much more critical than the average guest and we tend not to write things off.

If they do this, the waiters are now going to be getting less from me because I always just left the amount of the original bill, so they were getting 20%. I will not sit there and try to figure out 2%, that's just insane.

I also do not think that 18% tip for buffet is appropriate, but that is just me, I think it should be 15%.

I called DDE the other day and spoke to a CM. I asked what changes were going to be announced in November. She stated the only thing she had heard was that an 18% tip was going to be automatically added to the bill.
