I'm in high school and thinking about doing the Disney College Program for college. I understand that you have to go to another school for freshman year and then the Disney College Program, but I still don't want to even consider this opportunity until I have all of the facts. Is it a scholarship program? Is it like an internship working at WDW? If you could just explain to me the basics that would be great. I love Disney so much and working there would be fantastic, but I don't know where to start. I'm only a sophomore in HS but I want to start browsing options now.

Thanks,

Hi Mickeyrific!

The DCP is not a scholarship program; it is in fact an internship where you take a semester off of whatever college you attend (Disney wants you to at least have completed a semester before taking off to do the DCP) and spend that time working front-line somewhere at the WDW Resort. While you are on the DCP, you can chose to take some classes that Disney offers (hospitality/marketing-type classes) and they may or may not transfer, credit-wise, back to your school and count towards your curriculum. You do not have to take classes, and even if they don't transfer back to your school, they can still look good on a resume.

The DCP is basically just an opportunity to work at WDW and get your foot in the door. If you want to do something other than working front-line (working merch shops, attractions, food and beverage locations, lifeguarding, etc.) you will want to use the DCP as a networking opportunity for the future.

Once you're in college, listen up (check facebook, Twitter, and the Disney official job pages) for when applications are open, and apply online. You'll most likely be asked to complete a web-based interview first after applying, where they'll judge your interest and ability to complete the program. If you pass, you'll complete a phone interview with a recruiter, and usually if you do well with that, they'll email you with an acceptance, telling you what role (your general role, not your specific location- you'll get that once you arrive in Orlando at the start of your program) you got and you'll accept and fill out all sorts of paperwork etc.

Does this help? Let me know if you're confused or have any other questions! Good luck in school :)
