So we went on the 7 day cruise through the Norway Fjords June 6-13, 2015. It was such a wonderful trip! I will try to post pictures later, but here is the report!
Travelling is me (Jen), my husband, Derek, and our 6 year old daughter, Dakota.
So we flew out of Ft. Lauderdale on Thursday, June 4th at 10pm at night on Norwegian Air. We found direct round trip tickets (no layovers!) for approx. $700.00 a person from Ft. Lauderdale to Copenhagen! Amazing deal I think! Norwegian Air was wonderful! We just flew coach but the seats were very comfortable and roomier than most airlines. We were on a new plane they call their dreamliner. Each seat had it's own entertainment system with lots of choices for movies, tv shows and music, with a whole section for kids, so this entertained my 6 year old whenever she wasn't sleeping! They even had sudoku and solitaire! We paid for the food, which was kind of fun because it was very European. They brought by tea and coffee after every meal and the soft drinks were included. I was very pleased and we slept as well as you can in coach on a plane (which is not much) and arrived in Copenhagen at approx 10am the next morning.
We took a cab and checked into our hotel, which was a boutique hotel called The Square. It was awesome! Very modern and not too pricey! It had a separate pull out bed for Dakota which was perfect! Copenhagen is a wonderful city because while it feels like a city, it is small and everything is very accessible and within walking distance. There are a lot of bikers in the city (with good reason, it is easily bikable) and there are public bikes to rent. We didn't do this since my daughter can't ride without training wheels yet, but it looked fun! We walked to the Stroget (a pedestrian shopping street) and went in and out of a few stores, bought a troll of course, and then had Linner at a pub that was decorated with all the pictures of the Danish Royal family. We got fish and chips, which was good, but expensive! For 2 fish and chips, and 2 sodas, we paid about 60.00 American! Yikes! Everything in Denmark and Norway is expensive so I was glad we were getting on a cruise the next day!
Well, the three of us were EXHAUSTED and our heads were buzzing at this point so we walked back to the hotel and promptly fell asleep at 6pm. I remember my husband waking up at one point and asking what time it was (since it was light so long there). I told him 11pm and he said "What?! How are we going to sleep till morning??!!" But he went back to sleep and we did! We woke up around 6am after 12 hours of sleep refreshed! We all took showers and packed up and then went to the hotel's breakfast buffet which was about 20.00 a person but AWESOME! Everything is so modern there! So it was about 8am and we asked the hotel front desk what we could do on a Sat morning at 8am. They looked at us like we were crazy and told us, "Uh, sit at a cafe?" Well, we are not sit at a cafe people so we just decided to walk. We looked at a map and found a playground in a park down the street. It was a beautiful park with gorgeous statues and a lake in the middle. Dakota had a blast on the playground.
Then we saw that we weren't too far from the botanical gardens and walked down there, which opened at 8:30 (uh, hotel conceirge, if tourists ask where to go at 8am on a Sat morning, tell them the Botanical Gardens!!!)! The Botanical Gardens were beautiful and so much fun because they have all these Rocky mounds with flowers that are a blast to climb, and a greenhouse, and bridges. It was a fabulous morning! Right next door is the palace gardens and we peaked in and saw the Guards (who dress like the British Guards with the fluffy hats) arriving for work. They have these beautiful arches that we walked through and then we stopped at a cafe and had a pastry on the Stroget. While there I saw a bunch of people mobbing a shop. This kind of situation intimidates my husband which wanted nothing to do with it, but I am a shopper so I dived right in and found that there was a table of 3 clothing items for 50 Krone, which is like 3 items for 10.00 American!!! I told you guys that everything was expensive, I mean I think we just paid 100 Krone for our pastries and sodas! So I got a skirt, shirt and sweater. The sweater wasn't that great on second thought but I had to grab what I could and I ended up loving the shirt and skirt! So fun! So invigorated by the sale, we walked back to the hotel to grab a taxi to the pier!
We arrived at the pier and as first time Disney Cruisers had to wait in the longest line, but still, we were through the line in about 20 minutes! The terminal was very nice and they had a spot set up to take pictures with Mickey and Minney! What a great start to the trip! We got Dakota registered for the Oceaneers Club and then before we knew it, our group was called and we were boarding the Magic!!!
The only thing I have to say is I think due to the set up on the pier, we did not come into the ship in the atrium, but arrived where you would board after shore excursions, so sadly, they did not announce our entrance into the ship. This was probably the only major disappointment I had the whole cruise, so I got over it! But I am determined to go on another Disney Cruise soon and get announced!!!!!!
Our room was very nice! Just a normal inside cabin with a couch that turned into a bed for Dakota. It was clean and I think very comparable to our Princess and Norwegian cabins! We had lunch at the buffet, which was very good and clean and then checked out the Oceaneers Club and Lab with Dakota since they were in open house. She decided she was going to live at the slide in Andy's Room in the club and that was that. I wish they didn't have quite so many open houses throughout our voyage as that meant we didn't feel comfortable leaving Dakota there without us since other people could come in and out, but I suspect as she gets older, we won't mind. Dakota really enjoyed the club and she is a very shy girl who gets easily intimidated. We wouldn't leave her there for long periods of time ... about an hour at a time and if she asked to hang out with us, she did. But it was nice for her to have a place to play that she enjoyed!
Our first night's dinner rotation was at the Animator's Palate! We were very excited about this! Our table mates were a really nice American family who were living in Italy. They had 2 boys, one Dakota's age and one a little younger. Very sweet. And they were first time Disney cruisers as well. We got along with them great! The food was pretty good that first night but I don't think we quite had the hang of ordering the best dish yet. I wouldn't say the best cruise food ever, but it was very good. The service was very good but our assistant waiter through the trip would just be ... okay. She was very nice but she really couldn't recommend wines and they had this wine special that was very confusing. Our table mates were wine connoisseurs so they were more annoyed with this than we would have been. We probably would not have noticed. We learned throughout the trip to ask to have Dakota served with us instead of before while we got her appetizers. That way she would be more patient throughout the dinner. And sometimes I would bring her to the kids club after she ate. She was very good though and enjoyed getting dressed up for dinner each night!!! She dressed like a princess every night! We had an Aurora costume and an Anna costume which she wore twice each and she had her easter dress and another couple of fancy dress that she wore as well. She LOVED it! We also took family pictures every night before dinner, picking our favorites at the end of the cruise. And there were always at least 3 characters taking pictures at any given time -AWESOME!! And unlike in Disney World, you rarely had to wait more than 5 minutes.
So we went to the opening show, which was good and then went to bed since it had been a long day!
So the next day was a day at sea. We woke up a decent time and had breakfast at Lumierre's- yum.
Now since this cruise was inspired by Frozen, everyone knew the Frozen characters would be the most sought after, so Disney was really smart and gave everyone who wanted to a ticket to see the Frozen characters at a specific time when you didn't have to wait more than 10 minutes and it was all set up for pictures! They did the same for the Avengers as well! It was so brilliant and one of Dakota's favorite things!!! So we met the Frozen characters and the Princesses and then Dakota went to play in the kids club and we got our Bingo on!!! Derek and I played Bingo every single session they offered on the cruise! We are gamblers and missed having a casino on board but Bingo was really fun! And we won about 1/2 the time so we ended up breaking even in the end, which I call a win!!!! The cruise director staff member that ran Bingo was so fun!!! It was really an enjoyable part of the cruise!!!
I think we also went to a Movie in the Buena Vista Theater and started Anna's Chocolate Scavanger Hunt (she would give us three clues every night that we had to find on the ship and fill out on a sheet. The last day we left it on our bed and Anna gave us a chocolate treat! Three chocolate covered rice crispy treats with Frozen scenes on them! So fun!)! We had dinner that night at Carioca's (spelling??) and it was pretty good. I don't like spicey food and the menu was Caribbean based that night so I was limited as to choices. But it was still pretty good. I liked the restaurant atmosphere.

Wow--sounds like a great time! I was talking in another thread about my remorse--we were on the RCI Serenade otS in Copenhagen at the same time as you on the 6th. We loved the itinerary but hated everything else about RCI--wished we were on DCL!!!

So picking up, the next day was our first day in Norway! We went to Stavanger! Norway is gorgeous. It feels very much like Alaska in that the towns are fairly small, and the air is fresh, and the scenery is spectacular! Also at every port we were docked right next to the city, no tenders or transportation needed! And you could walk around every little town easily! Such an easy trip! Our first shore excursion was the Lysejeford cruise. We boarded a two story boat and went cruising through the fjord and saw some beautiful scenery. It was fairly calm water and a cold and somewhat wet day. The termperatures ran in the 50s-70s I would say on average but because of wind and a little bit of sprinkles, it always felt colder. We are from a tropical island in SW Florida so for us, this was COLD! But we LOVED the change!!! We just bundled up with our scarves and hats and jackets and it was so fun! Anyways, we arrived at the Lysejeford tourist center and had a snack of waffles with jelly (YUM!) and tea and hot chocolate. There were some goats at the place we stopped which Dakota enjoyed, and a tiny little shop (any place to shop is good for me =)). We got back on the boat and arrived back in Stavanger. We then explored the town, stopping first at the coolest playground ever! It is made of old oil tanker parts and is ingenious! Our favorite part is these trampolines that you can bounce on up into the buoys that are made into a bouncing place ... it's hard to explain but it's super fun! And it's the only place where they allow graffitti in the town so it's beautiful with bright colored paint everywhere. Then we walked the hilly streets and did a little shopping. Very expensive, but there were some thrift shops which I should have spent more time in (my husband was pushing us to keep going =(). We had a beautiful day! We had dinner that night in Lumieres and it was a wonderful dinner!!! And Belle visited which Dakota loved!! Then we went to Bingo then the show which I believe was Villians Tonight - so fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The next day we went to Alesund. Alesund is another beautiful little town. Our shore excursion this time was to an old church on Giske Island and a light house on Godor (I think). The church was quaint.. an old wooden church with some colorful woodworking. But it was more fun to drive though the tiny community on the Island. The lighthouse was a great adventure! We all climbed to the top and it was so cold and windy up there and then had to come back down the tiny spiraling stairs. A few of the children had a meltdown at this, understandably but Dakota was so funny, she was like "I got this Mama. I'm not scared at all Mama." She was so proud of herself! We went into the restaurant there and had the best pancakes and cake I have ever had! I'm not even kidding! So good! Along with some hot tea and chocolate to warm us up! Then we got back on the bus and went to the lookout at Eagles Bend. Gorgeous!!! There is a tourist center and restaurant up there and you can walk up or down the 700 steps it takes to get there from the town. We did not do this but it looked like fun and if we didn't have a 6 year old I would have definitely attempted it! We did a little shopping in the town of Alesund after that and then returned to the ship.
Next stop, Geiranger. This was actually one of my favorites even though it was the smallest! Our shore excursion didn't leave till the afternoon but we docked in the morning so we went into the town first. Now this is a REALLY small town but they had the best tourist shop we encountered our whole trip! Relatively good prices for Norway so everyone was going nuts! My husband and daughter were shopped out but I have a policy of spending as much time as possible in a town so I get as much of an experience as possible so they returned to the ship while I kept walking. I came upon this outlet store for Moods of Norway and found my best find of the trip! A suede jacket for 50.00 American and a pair of awesome boots for 35.00 American!!! It was a small store but it was having a sale and I just had the best time!!!! Our shore excursion was to go to a goat farm that makes brown cheese. The proprietor of the farm was so sweet! He loved his goats so much and showed them off proudly while his wife showed us how she made the cheese. We got to play with and pet the goats and explore the farm and of course, taste all the cheese products! It was such an authentic Norwegian experience and one of my favorite of the trip! The drive up to the farm was pretty scary though!! All these hair pin bend turns in a bus! But the bus driver did a great job! And we got some wonderful pictures when we stopped off!
To be continued....

I was on the same cruise as you and it is great to relive some of it through someone else's eyes! You did quite different things from us, so it is interesting to see what the other options were. Since Norway is not too far from Germany, where I live, I am sure I will be back there. It was just so wonderful!

Holy moly! I just realized I never finished this trip report! How delinquent of me!! So a year later, here goes at remembering ...

I left off at the goat farm in Geiranger. The next and last stop was Bergen, Norway. Bergen has these colorful little fisherman houses that lean at the wharf. They've turned them into shops now and we went on a walking tour of Bergen. We heard about the fishing industry there and the fish market. It's a sweet little town. After the walking tour, my husband and daughter wanted to get back to the ship, but as I said - I like to spend as much time in town as possible (even when the ship is a beautiful Disney ship) so I bid them goodbye at the Pier and went exploring! I found a shopping mall and walked through the stores. I walked around the fish market (which smelled like you would imagine!)! And basically just wandered around the area around the pier. I bought a few souveniers including some linens from the mall, a planner in Norwegian, and another troll (I got a troll everywhere I went). Back on the boat that evening we went to the show and bingo again of course!!!
Our last day on the cruise was a day at sea. We finished up Anna's scavanger hunt that day. We all went to Bingo and to the movies. We explored the galleries and then in the afternoon they had a Maypole celebration with Frozen characters!!! There were four characters from the Kingdom of Aragon and they sang and danced with us and then we took turns dancing around the Maypole! This all took place in the atrium and was leading up to the big Frozen show that night where we were promised snow! Dakota was so excited!
Our last dinner was at Animator's Palate (yum!) and then we went upstairs to the top deck for the Frozen show and party. It was FREEZING!!! And not even just for us wimpy South Floridians! Everyone was freezing! They handed out blankets which we bundled up in. Anna, Kristoph, Elsa and Olaf were all at the show and we sang and danced with them ... and yes, it "snowed"! It was a wonderful show! And it was still light out at 11pm when it finished! Crazy! We watched the sunset for the first time that trip, then went in to bed.
On the last morning while we were packing up our final items and getting dressed, my daughter was just sitting on her bed. I looked over at her without seeing her face and in an annoyed voice asked her to please start getting ready!!! Then I looked at her face. The tears were pouring down her face. She said in a very sad voice that she didn't want the trip to end. She didn't want to leave. The tears came in my eyes and I gave her a big hug and told her I was right there with her. I didn't want to leave either. We had looked forward to this trip for so long, and it was everything we wished! It just went by way too fast!!!!
But leave the ship we did -smoothly. We stayed one more day in Copenhagen and visited Tivoli Gardens - one of Walt's inspirations for Disney World. I will recap that last day tomorrow!!!

Thanks for the report! I'm jealous of your stop in Geiranger. Our Disney cruise stopped in Oslo, Kristiansand and Stavanger. Glad you (and Dakota, apparently) loved it so much.

If you have pictures, I'd love to see them.

I finally figured out how to upload photos!!!
So on the last day we sadly bid goodbye to the Disney Magic and smoothly got off the ship and checked into our hotel for the night. I honestly forget the name after all this time, but again it was modern and beautiful and clean. It was about 9am and Tivoli Gardens opened up at 11am if I remember right. So we decided to go on the bus, hop on hop off tour and go see the famed "Little Mermaid" statue. Copenhagen is the home of Hans Christian Anderson and the statue is in his honor. It's a lot smaller than you think it's going to be but it's beautiful in it's setting on the wharf! On the way to and from the statue we learned about the history of Copenhagen with earphones. It was very interesting and a great way to spend a couple of hours. Finally, we got back off at Tivoli Gardens and went in. It's fairly affordable. About 60.00 US per person with a band for unlimited rides. Like Disney World originally was, each ride has a different number of tickets required and you can by tickets or you can buy an unlimited band. I highly recommend an unlimited band. There are plenty of rides for all ages to enjoy. Tivoli Gardens is said to be one of the amusement parks that Walt Disney studied when designing Disneyland and you can definitely see it's influences in my opinion. When you walk in, there is a large open space where there are performances and restaurants. And then in a sort of circle, there are different lands with rides. There is a Hans Christian Anderson themed ride where you sit in a "flying trunk" and there are wooden puppets depicting scenes from his stories (which are quite dark!). This ride reminds me of Peter Pan or the old Mr. Toad's wild ride. There are old cars that go around a track that reminds me of the Speedway at Disney World. There is the world's second oldest wooden roller coaster, which was really fun! Dakota went on with us! Also, quite bumpy! LOL! There are balloons that go around like a ferris wheel. Lots of fun rides which kept us entertained all afternoon!!! Around 7pm we headed back to our hotel and picked up some sandwiches from a convenience store on the way (I know .. I know ... but we were exhausted!!)! The next morning we had a great breakfast at the hotel, then headed to the airport to fly home.

It was such a wonderful trip. It really was. I got to experience a Disney cruise for the first time with all it's magic, and also see a part of the world that I had never seen! I live on a resort island so a Caribbean Cruise really doesn't appeal to me or give me the same excited feeling as seeing somewhere like Norway and Denmark! It was just fantastic and magical!!!
