We (three 20-somethings) spent 9 straight hours at California Adventure yesterday. One member of our group had the 2-day california pass and had never seen DCA. The other two of us have been doing a checklist tour of every single ride and attraction at Disneyland/DCA, so we targeted a few unusual stops.
It was busy, but not the busiest the park will be this summer, or even close to that. Our day looked something like this:
Silly Symphony Swings
Tried to ride Goofy's Sky School, it broke down for the whole afternoon
King Triton's Carousel
Midway Mania
California Screamin'
Challenge Trail (briefly)
Tuck n' Roll's (my first time and my last)
Tower of Terror
Animation Academy (Phineas and Ferb!)
Sorcerer's Workshop
The Little Mermaid
Soarin'
Bread Tour
Mad T Party (~15 minutes)
World of Color
We were there for a total of 9 hours including World of Color. That's definitely the longest continuous day I've ever spent at DCA. The friend who'd never been there was thoroughly underwhelmed. (We couldn't get on Grizzly River with the long line, but I didn't really consider it a loss.)
Carsland, post-opening crowds, would likely have added an hour to our day. If we'd stopped for the Aladdin Musical or Muppet 3D we could've made it even longer.
But if you gave me the choice of "A full Day at Disney's California Adventure" or "A Full Day at the Magic Kingdom" I would laugh at you. The Bugs rides are an embarrassment. They don't even give the illusion of being fun or whimsical. They're just sort of... there. Taking up some space. King Triton's carousel is claustrophobic by carousel standards.
The Bread Tour best sums up our efforts to experience unpopular attractions. We walked in with about 10 other guests and watched the video in the entrance room. The doors opened and everyone entered. All the other guests bypassed the tour and left. We stood alone and watched Rosie make bad jokes. The people inside the tour stared at us. We took a photo inside the tour and one of the bakers photobombed the photo. Finally we'd had enough and gave ourselves credit for making it more than 3 minutes in there.
My point is, California Adventure has a lot of rides. They are not quality rides. Yes, Disney has turned this park into something that fills more hours than it did 5 years ago. They have done AMAZING work. As far as I'm concerned, though, this park will not be complete until they announce plans to replace A Bug's Land with a single ride (provided the path to Tower of Terror isn't removed).
Also, talked to a CM who just could not contain his excitement about Racers. Still hoping I get an AP preview in the lottery.
