Review following for Team Lore. Team Legend hope to have you up later today.
Team Lore
Appreciated the brief overview of S.E.A. For most on this board (I assume), there is at minimum at passing knowledge of S.E.A. where the average park guest has 0 idea the fascination or backstory of the organization. Short. Sweet and to the point what we could expect from your experiences.
Battle-x-plorers
I know Sorcerer’s of the Magic Kingdom was not the most groundbreaking attraction or thing to do in a Disney Park, but it was one of those “experiences” that Disney offered to complement your day in the park. Not everyone did it or had to. It took 2 minutes to figure out what to do and it was a fun side diversion on a busy, or slow day for kids young and old. Plus, the cards were a great collectible. I lamented its loss. Reviving it in a new fashion was a welcome idea, and love the concept from a S.E.A. angle, particularly the expansion of lore opportunities in the lands of the park that previously were not involved.
That said, I was a bit torn by this new interpretation. I appreciated the ingenuity and expansion, but the title Battle-x-plorers and inclusion of Epic Mickey elements all seemed an odd crossover to me that took away from the S.E.A. elements that should have been the focus of this round. I think this iteration loses some of the simplicity and kid-friendliness of SOTM where S.E.A. members could have been used to explore the reaches of the park, make new inventions, discover lost artifacts, etc. Again, liked the parkwide expansion and particularly some of the S.E.A. focused elements in Adventureland and the intro with Albert Falls, but other areas I wasn’t as sold on.
Scrolls from Pompeii
A S.E.A. attraction at Epcot and in Italy’s World Showcase pavilion no less? Makes a ton of sense and from a park ops perspective, a great job of balancing attractions in World Showcase thanks to its location. Reminded me fondly of a park (Novus Harbor) that we’ve worked on the forums on a few occasions in comps.
The ride premise is simple enough and easy to follow for guests. A low key, omni mover journeying through simple sets and story gives off a ton of OG Epcot vibes. Exposition seems like it would be easy to follow and there would be a couple of impressive scenes in the Sistine chapel and Vesuvius eruption. I love too the use of personal life experience here in crafting an attraction. My biggest question here is the S.E.A. angle. I think I remember from your team chat that Padre Antonio Piaggio is a new S.E.A. member, but how do guests know this, and how does that affiliation factor into the attraction? I don’t think it necessarily has to be a S.E.A. ride, but perhaps easter eggs in the queue for his membership, or in the ride for eagle eyed guests would have been satisfactory to tie it all together.
Williams Illusion Café
I love the idea behind this dining establishment and taking the basic idea of Abracadabar at the Boardwalk up a big notch. Some great nods here to the Adventurer’s Club, and Williams being recruited for his skill to help with various adventures. I like that he would be more of a side member. It helps keep him unique enough in a Dr. Strange sort of way with the Avengers.
1930’s Hollywood is a perfect fit (location in DHS?) and could see this being a great spot. While I know the 4 options needed to be balanced, I’d love to see a bit more on this part of the project, particularly from an ambiance and experience side. How does it all work? Do guests get up and walk around, or are all of the sight illusions, etc. meant to be taken from your seat. To me there is a good deal of potential with this idea for a unique dining location at DHS.
Voyage of the Sunrise Moon
Is there room for 2 archaeologists at Animal Kingdom? I kid. Plenty of detail on Dr. Darcy Merriwood and how she and the setting for your attraction make their way into the park. Merriwood seems to have a passing association with S.E.A., but that works, and I could foresee her and Captain Mary Oceaneer having a pretty great partnership.
I know the Ice Age has been thrown about as a complement or replacement for the dinosaur section of the park, but this is a solid way of getting that vibe but making it less IP based in keeping with the other areas of the park in Asia and Africa as you noted. A great build-up for the attraction and the larger boat size is a welcome addition to the park. Plenty of opportunity here to use some of the techniques from Navi River Journey. The only critique is that the ride portion of the pitch gets cut quickly and I’d love to see some inclusion of Merriwood. I know availability was an issue this week for everyone, but that left me wanting to see more of the ride itself.
Conclusion
Overall, a solid project from the team. I really liked the mix of options you presented with a boat ride, omni mover, interactive game and restaurant. For the most part, you gave equal footing to each, and each has merit for a fit in the parks. There were some parts that weren't a personal fit with me, or I think could have used a bit more detail. In a perfect world, I’d love to see the team have another week to fine tune their ideas and would enjoy seeing them all fully realized in written and visual form.
