Daredevil vs Parents Television Council

You are being pedantic and you know it. Sure, they didn't explicitly advertise it as only only being family friendly content by using those exact words, but they most certainly implicitly advertised it as such by showcasing only things that were family friendly. And then they launched it with only such content. It was made abundantly clear that if you are okay with MCU/Star Wars/POTC level of violence and language for your kids then you would have no need for any sort of parental locks for the service because that was the "worst" it got.

Sure, I guess they could have advertised Star Wars and Marvel and Pixar and then dropped Pulp Fiction on there and been like "well we didn't say we wouldn't have adult content on there" but we all know that would have been counter to how they advertised the service. And some people would have felt it was a "bait and switch" delivering something different than what was promised.

Again, no one here is saying they have a problem with the shift and it's acknowledged there are parental controls in place. But there's no denying that this is a significant change from how the service was initially advertised and launched and it is perfectly understandable for people to not be happy with it.
First I'm not being pedantic, I'm making a valid point which is that since the beginning the advertising goes out of its way to make sure it doesn't explicitly limit the type of content that can be dropped on the service. Heck if you look at the advertising outside the US its even more explicit in stating the type of content is limitless, especially in the last year.

Second, as I've said now a couple time I understand why some are unhappy about this. I can see how some were under the impression that D+ would ONLY be that "Disneyfied" content they were used to from their childhood.

Anyways if done right I think this is can be seen as a good thing for the service. As a huge road block to new subs is the very thing that some think is being lost with this move, that being that D+ is ONLY for that "Disneyfied" content. With the more adult content comes new subs that see that D+ is no longer just a service for kids, that its for adults too. Something that I'm sure is part of the reason for this move.

As I mentioned in the main D+ Streaming thread:

New Parental Controls launched today. You're prompted to set them up upon launching the app after the update.

Also you can set a Pin to lock out access to profiles that have the more mature content enabled. This prevents accidental access by switching profiles.

So really this should squash any concern, as you can setup a pure "Kids" profile and lock out the "Adult" profile and still have D+ being the babysitter.

Parents don't have an infinite knowledge bank where they're expected to know the appropriateness of every piece of content that exists. They trust companies like Disney to put up reasonable guardrails.
Isn't that the point of the ratings system? Disney+ is highlighting parental controls more than any other streamer. Plenty of kids watch Netflix and HBO Max. It's not really an issue. Disney is even taking the extra step of not automatically unlocking the R and TV-MA content.

The part of Disney's decision making that I find strange isn't the decision to put this content on one of their streaming services. The part that I don't understand is putting it on Disney+ when Hulu exists for the sole purpose of housing this type of content.
I think from a branding standpoint they just want a unified Marvel. The Daredevil show now has characters we've seen in Spider-Man and Hawkeye. Deadpool 3 will probably be a massive hit, and they'll want to make it easy for people to re-watch 1 & 2. If you're an adult Marvel fan you'll only need one streamer. I'm sure Hit Monkey and MODOK make their way over after those series are no longer active.

So I'm wondering when they will add Deadpool 1 & 2 and Logan to Disney+. Seems pretty much inevitable at this point.

Also, I don't think Daredevil the movie (and Elektra - Ha!) are on Disney+ even though it was a Fox film so Disney owns the rights. Maybe that will appear at some point as well, though it could have shown up along the way like the X-Men films have.

And thinking about other Marvel films, Ghost Rider will likely come along as part of the deal with Sony for streaming rights. I guess that would leave the Blade films, Hulk films, The Punisher films and Howard the Duck as the Marvel comics films not on D+

Daredevil and Elektra will probably have to wait until next year when the Fox/HBO deal runs out. You're probably right on the Ghost Rider films. New Line made Blade and is owned by Warner Brothers. Howard the Duck and Hulk are Universal. Punisher films might be possible as they're under Lionsgate, and Starz is a subsidiary but no direct streaming competition to Disney.

I think from a business standpoint it makes financial sense for Disney to start adding more adult content if they want to increase their subscribers to a wider audience. Because let's be real, not enough people are going to boycott Disney over this. If an outraged parent doesn't want their child to use Disney Plus out of fear of adult content, do you really think said parent will then switch teams and get a subscription to Netflix, Amazon Prime or HBO Max? OF COURSE NOT! All three of those services have way more graphic content than any of the Marvel Defenders shows that were just moved to Disney Plus. Parents may complain about this change and how its devaluing the Disney brand, but most will just suck it up and increase the parental controls because they know there is no other streaming alternative for families.
