Damage to WDW from hurricanes?

Has anyone heard to what extent the recent hurricanes have damaged Disney World? I haven't been in the forums much the past few weeks so I apologize if this has been discussed elsewhere.

The little bit I have seen on the forums is that damage is minimal. Does anybody how bad the damage is and what specific things were affected?

Thanks for the help; any information on the effect of the past hurricanes and the effect Jeanne will have would be appreciated! :)

not much, since all 4 parks are scheduled to reopen tomorrow

The majority of the damage is primarily to the trees/foliage in the parks. There was probably some roof damage across property as well. WDW does prepare for these things more than other companies, so they're fairly well protected. Here are some photos of the preparation/damage from the last few hurricanes.

Has anyone heard if any of the damage will be noticable to the public eye? As we all know, WDW prides itself on its upkeep and perfection. Thanks for all continued info!

We should know later today how much damage (if there was any) to the parks by today or this afternoon. Hopefully it will be just trees down and some debris. I am sure once the hurricane ride out crew got signal they were starting to clean the park to open it up today.

So I take it the parks opened up this morning? From what I saw on the news this morning, it looks like the storm is pretty much out of central FL (not saying the damage is cleaned up and how badly I feel for the residents), so I was wondering if the parks did open or not.

Jeanne is now making her way up towards my house...tonight and tomorrow...I hope we don't get the flooding like we did from Ivan...

I can't say what damage was done by Jeanne, but Charley and Frances knocked over many trees all over the grounds and damaged signs. I didn't notice anything wrong in the parks themselves, just trees mostly on the roads.

(we got out of there on saturday night and went back home!!)

damage that I noticed

I just barely made it out of Disney saturday night after going to the park. some of the damage I noticed were little things like trees do not have as many leaves on them so you can now see the backstage area of fantasmic. also, on the monorail just north of Epcot a lot of trees down. little things like that.

what does disney do with all of there boats, like the rental boats and the transport boats? I can't imagine the sea racyers could take that much rain and the larger boats I'd imagine would be constantly hitting the dock.

The guest areas are for the most part ok. They didn't get damaged too bad and whatver is damaged gets fixed quickly. Areas that have lots of trees are where you can see the problems. If you ride the monorail you can see the areas where the trees were destroyed and Disney hasn't been able to (or just isn't going to) clean up yet.

Those are great pictures. The latest set from Jeanne makes WDW look sort of like a borded up ghost town though, kind of depressing when you think of it!

Talked to Dave a while ago and he said all it was is the usual tress down and such. No major damage that he could see to the MK.

I have asked this before, but have not seen the answer. [So, if you have answered and I missed it, I am sorry.]

I would like to know what WDW does to secure the hundreds of boats that they have for oncoming hurricanes, or during the storm.

Also, I was curious if there was any flooding around the property, especially around Bay Lake/Seven Seas Lagoon, and around the Contemporary. Did anyone stay at the Contemporary? If so, were the top floors off limits? And what did it sound like on the Grand Canyon Concourse (Floor 4)? Just curious.

Any other interesting stories from on-property?

Well I for one am glad to see that WDW (for the most part) is in one piece...after three hurricanes...I'd say thats excellent work constructing durable buidlings, and following through with the proper planning and preperations.

Not to be impertinent or anything...but doesn't this thread belong in the new Weather forum? http://forums.wdwmagic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=64

Eh, no real damage beyond trees and some roof damage to the Coral Reef restuarant. Beyond that, Theyre about to open up Little Lake Pluto, the first attraction at Orlando Disney Seas on the shores of Bay Lake. (Thank you Emma Nevada and Bamboo 7 for the jokes)

Just a lot of pine needles everywhere... a few signs down here and there. Nothing people will notice beyond a casual glance.

Once again, that Epcot Wand has proven that it will only come down once metal fatigue sets in.
