The architecture is a blend of the folk art of cultures found on equatorial islands such as Bali, the Carribean and the South Seas Islands. Interestingly enough, each shop and restaurant on Discovery Island is based on a specific animal theme:
Creature Comforts features animals and insects with spots or stripes; such as zebras, tigers and bumblebees.
Island Mercantile highlights animals that migrating or work; such as geese, beavers and camels.
Beastly Bazaar showcases animals that spend a significant amount of time on or around water, such as fish, otters, and bears.
Disney Outfitters features animals that travel in herds such as elephants and rhinos.
Pizzafari has several themes, one for each major room:
-Animals that can easily camouflage themselves: zebras, leopards, polar bears, and chameleons.
-Animals that carry their homes: armadillos, snails, turtles, kangaroos
-Animals that are nocturnal: bats, owls, raccoons, coyotes
-Animals that are brightly colored: butterflies, macaws, peacocks, fish
-Animals that live upside-down: opossum, snakes, sloth, bats
And, finally, Flame Tree BBQ is based on predator-prey relationships. One fun little detail with this is the design of the chairs and tables. The chair backs have predators sculpted into them, and the tables are inlaid with a design of their corresponding prey. By pushing your chair in, you're getting the predators closer to their prey.
