I'll be there too.

I'm a bit confused by the check-in time, though. The website says it's 8:30, which I would assume is 8:30 local time. But my confirmation e-mail says 8:30 PST, which would make it 11:30 at WDW. Since the Studios close at 7:00 that night, I would think that the check-in would be at 8:30 and not 11:30 -- why would they need over 4 hours to prep the attraction for the event?

I'm told the DHS bays are easier to access and have fewer complications than the DL install. I also understand that on opening day, not all the DHS bays will be ready (expected 5 out of the 6 will be done).

Interesting, and thanks for the info! It makes sense that the custom built building at DHS would allow easier access to the simulators. But opening with a reduced capacity sounds risky. Or maybe they are not in the habit of running all six at one time, and keep one or two in reserve anyway.

Very interesting though.

So... how was the event? Did they throw in anything extra or was it just the ride and "goodbye"? I'm thinking something like were there Star Wars characters there or food or something?

The event was a lot of fun.. Got a Final Star Tours fast pass, Boarding pass and a really cool Commemorative Star Tours Patch.. Well worth the $5 processing fee

The event was a blast. Eventgoers were escorted to Star Tours by a group of stormtroopers, who posed for photos outside the attraction and then rode along with us for the "final flight." Afterward, the stormtroopers hung out for further photo ops in Tatooine Traders, which was open for quite a while after the ride was over. I was happy to see that there was still some Celebration V merchandise available for sale -- the Starspeeder 1000, Shadow Trooper Donald Duck, and various pins, as well as the Star Tours Boarding Party action figure set and pin set (which are limited edition, but not Celebration V exclusives). There were also Last Tour to Endor popcorn buckets available outside.

I saw on some other sites that some people received a coin set upon check-in, which seems to be a giveaway from 2007. We only got the commemorative Fastpass and boarding pass when we checked in, and the patch after getting off the ride. Then again, we didn't check in until close to 8:30, when the waiting area was already full with what must have been well over 150 people. I didn't see anyone else who checked in at the same time get the coins, so I'm guessing they only had a limited number and that only people who checked in earlier got them.

The Fastpass, boarding pass, and patch are all great. I love the fact that the Fastpass says that an "Another FASTPASS(R) ticket will be available in 2011!"
