D23 Gold Membership...Is it worth it?

I am a huge Disney/Disney World nerd and was looking into getting a gold D23 membership but with a 75.00 price tag it seemed a little pricey. I only get to go to Disney World once every 3-4 years so I wouldn't be able to utilize some of the perks D23 members receive in the parks but for everything else that's included in the package do you feel it's worth the price?

What exactly can I expect from being a gold member? Thanks!

I buy it because it's the only way I get the magazine [we don't have Barnes & Noble here]. Shipping costs to Canada aren't as ridiculous as shipping costs to the UK, but still pretty high. For me it's worth it, some of the extras that come with the magazine are fun. I've only been to one D23 event so far and it was a very expensive whim, but fun.

I plan to have "and he was a charter member of D23" listed in my obituary. That should help me get a better ranking among the 999 ghosts in residence at the haunted mansion. :lookaroun

During the 2 years of my D23 membership, I have received extra gifts not otherwise available for purchase with almost each magazine, plus an annual gift and last year received a holiday surprise. I like getting the extras, and I like supporting an organization created exclusively for hard core Disney fans. I also like the fact that I can choose to plan a trip to Disneyland around a D23 exclusive access event and when I get around to going all the way out there, I will do so in conjunction with one of these special events.

I have pretty much made up my mind to renew the membership for a third year.

As a charter member I feel it is well worth it if you love Disney and can afford it. The magazine is top notch and high quality, and you get cool little extras with each issue.

Also we were lucky to be able to get tickets to the Magic and Merriment event next month at WDW, this includes a tour of the Castle Suite and it will probably be the only chance I ever have to go inside of the suite so I can't wait for that! And remember you have to be a D23 member in order to buy the Magic and Merriment tickets.

So for me yes gold membership is well worth it!

Not at all, unless you live near DL or WDW. You can buy the overpriced magazine on it's own if you want. Not even the extras are all that spectacular...a Tron mousepad?

This is the second thread we have on this.

Not worth it at all if you don't live in CA or FL. The magazine is cheaper at Barnes and Noble bought outright, and the "extras" are not that "extra". You can also pick up the past issues (with a few exceptions) for a few bucks on eBay. I had it for the charter year and did not renew. I am a huge Disney fan, and support causes that support Disney. But this was not one of them. In essence, all you are doing is paying extra for the "privilege" of being a member, and spending more money to buy D23 merchandise at inflated prices with a small discount.

If you live in CA in particular, then there are a few events that might be worthwhile. Less so at WDW.

Not worth it at all for the rest of us, unless you just have money to throw away to call yourself a member.

Think of it as a "booster club." Would you join your college booster club? If so, then go for it. if not, well....

what's in New England... considering I am in Boston I would definitely join if I had a nice event here in my backyard!
Yea, Boston, but moreso NYC due to the fact that they have premiers for movies and other shenanigans.

I remember reading on JimHillMedia that there was an event in Boston, or did my eyes deceive me? Either way, it'd be easier to get to the events.
