Thank you to all the troops from the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Poles, Czechs, Slovaks, Free French and Belgians(sorry if I forgot any). What you did sixty years ago will not be forgotten.

If you get a chance, watch the HBO miniseries 'Band of Brothers'. It tells the story of the men of Easy Company, 506th Parachute Infantry, 101 Airborne Division. You follow them thru training in the US and UK, jumping into France on D Day, and to the end of the war and its aftermath. You realize what these people gave up to fight for their country and for the liberty of the conquered nations. I liked it better than 'Saving Private Ryan' because you get to know the main characters in depth (Band was produced by Tom Hanks and Steven Speilberg) over the ten episodes.

One of my grandpas was a part of this great event. He survived the war but did not survive his cigarettes, so unfortunately I have not been able to hear his story. I would like to see Band of Brothers. I missed it the first time around.

If you have a chance to see either the new National World War II memorial in DC (on the mall, between the Washington Monument and the Reflecting Pool), or the D-Day Memorial in Bedford, Virginia, (near Appomattox). Bedford county lost more of its sons and daughters in D-Day than any other county in the United States, so they put the D-Day memorial there. It is breathtaking.

I appreciate the troops for what they did that day, when 9,000 Americans died storming the beach at Normandy.

Many video stores have the entire series that you can rent.
