Cuts coming to every area of parks and resorts - thanks to Shanghai and Paris

Just some Spirited thoughts ... but DLP is being overstated here (there are folks in the company with axes to grind on that front, not saying that is where @wdwmagic is getting this from just stating a fact).

I was busy of late, but planned on dropping something on my thread about this. The gist of it would have been "There are two reasons why WDW is seeing, and will see even more, of the going out of business mentality that largely has been endemic under the leadership of Robert A. Iger: 1.)They need to cover Shanghai Disney issues, which are so much larger than 99.9% of fans or media realize or care about., and 2.) Chappie is very much looking to drop the ax on a few VPs in O-Town (pretty unprecedented) to show there's a new sheriff in town.

It is all very disheartening, but fans will excuse anything. Not true fans. But many of the garden variety that troll the 'net and sites like this and would eat a pile of cow manure if it was in the shape of a Hidden Mickey and Bob Iger asked them to.

WDW has one park that is overstuffed almost year round and three others with varying degree of major issues. The type that even Dr. Blondie and her Blogging Brigade of BRAND Advocates/Whores can't mask. But good to know people will pay even more for an even crappier experience in the swamps.

I have never stepped inside Mousegear before 10 a.m., but the idea that they need to lop off an on paper savings of a few thousand dollars a day is insane. ... At the same time, I have been around long enough to recall when EPCOT Center was open from 8 a.m. to 12 midnight or 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily, the entire park. Everything.

As a Disney Legend told me, "WDW fans get what they deserve" ... so sad, yet so true.

My advice? Email and phone execs. Do NOT write to Guest Relations. Do NOT complain to theme park front liners. Write to George Kalogridis and everyone at the VP level in O-Town. Don't be nasty or obscene, be strong and matter of fact. And don't be satisfied with a call from one of the people who live behind the Launch Bay and whose job it is to simply listen to you whine and do nothing about it.

EVERY exec at Disney with the exception of Bob Iger is very easy to contact directly. ... Of course, you might be afraid. They could decided to ban you for life (what did one of my fave fanbois call it ... oh yeah, "firing you as a customer") because you had the audacity to call Melissa at EPCOT or email Danny at the MK.

But understand this: this isn't needed. This is a company that despite China problems, despite the ridiculous cord-cutting ESPN non-story has never been more profitable. Yet, WDW continues to be run like it's going out of business tomorrow. And the rubes keep showing up.

Hey, MAGICal Steve, any new uncharge cupcake parties to announce?
Care to point us to where we can find said email addresses, mailing addresses, and phone numbers? I often wonder what kind of wording would have to be used to have these people take a random email seriously. I feel like if I contacted them and said stuff about Shanghai causing WDW cutbacks, they would write me off as a Disney forum nutjob with an axe to grind. Not the usual rube that usually shells out all their money for subpar merchandise and experiences.

Any hint at what might actually get their attention? I'm guessing just commenting on the current state of the parks, lack or great/new rides, and the overall feeling of the park nowadays. I have been to WDW every other year at least for the past 30 years, when i was there last year, the magic was definitely gone.

Ummm, they ply boarded up Pleasure Island 8 years ago, and it won't be fully open for another year. 9 years with the whole center section of DtD closed. And yet, you applaud.

WDW fans do get what they deserve.

sigh.... I did not applaud that... I said Iger and Staggs scrapped Hyperion Wharf for Disney Springs, a project that was several times larger and more expensive.

FYI.... PI has not been idol for 8 years. September of 2016 would be the 8th year anniversary of PI closing. It laid Idol for 2ish years and then construction began on the ill fated HW. 2011 construction started and was halt because a complete redesigned was deemed nessesary by... wait for it... Iger and Staggs who believed WDW's HW lack vision and potential. So they nix it, demanded WDW go back to the drawing board with a MUCH larger budget, revealed the massive and completely re-imagined Disney Springs. I applauded they stop HW and expanded it to the DS concept. I never applauded that they closed PI with out a solid replacement plan, and I never will, but that does not invalid the accolades for Bob and Tom stepping demanding they do it better. Its been under construction since 2013. So really it took them 3 years to stop a mistake, 2 years to design a much better replacement, and three years to build it all.

Figures. I literally just booked our first trip in two years for this June after going 3-4 times a year for many years. I had all but said never again but the kids actually want to go back (Disney got our money anyway with an awesome trip to DLR last summer).

Even two years ago you could blatantly feel the cuts. I'm hopeful that things will bounce back after Shanghai gets going but something tells me that things are gonna suck until Avatar and Stars wars opens and then demands a return to prior levels of service and expectations.

I've been to Mouse Gear before 10. My family was riding Soarin' first thing, and my wife had discovered she'd made a mistake not packing warm socks. I went to Mouse Gear, which indeed had almost no one there. Told a CM what I needed and why and she quickly steered me in the way of some warm socks. When the rest of the gang emerged from the Soarin' exit I presented the socks for some bonus husband points.

Not a great story, I'll admit, but my WDW experiences over the years have been greatly enriched by cast members, and these kinds of experiences don't happen unless there's cast there to do it.

I wish I could take all the Disney fans on here to Tokyo Disney/Tokyo Disneysea. $60 a day for each park or $145 for a three day park hopper ticket. In the off season queues are nothing, the customer service is top notch, and Disney Sea is probably the most beautiful Disney park in the world (and has amazing rides!). The park is run by a private company, instead of Disney, so it doesn't have that 'how can I get as much money out of the guests while giving them as little as possible' feel that Disney World has.
Don't forget Dreamlights

I'm not surprised that Disney is looking for any way to cut costs, even when the parks are doing well. I've heard similar stories about Disneyland and what they're doing to pay for Star Wars Land.

That said, I didn't notice anything of this kind during our trip over MLK weekend. In fact, I noticed that rides were operating with more trains and more cast members than I'd seen in recent years. Of course, this would be before what's being discussed now. Even so, I'm inclined to think that much of what will happen (if it even does) won't be visible to the average guest. I'll believe it when I see it, I guess.

Thing that scares me the most is if profits continue to rise despite the cuts, they may just become permanent even after things improve internationally.

We have ten days booked for the summer that we'll likely keep since our AP's are still good. After that, we planned to double our DVC points for our winter trip. Might have to cancel those plans and stop visiting twice a year. Never thought I'd say it, but it might just be time to do a non-Disney Florida vacation.

Sad days ahead for Disney, fortunately the competition wants our vacation dollars.

I'm sure 75% of the people reading this know a CM - they should have up to date info at their fingertips

This is another example I meant to include in my "shopping with a purpose" comment. Guests who have forgotten something, "accident" on the bus ride, etc. even things like it's the last day and you don't want to forget to buy X and so just go take a few minutes and grab it first thing.

While cutbacks stink sometimes they can be good if done right. My dh still rants about our trip in 2014 the week before Mine train opened. There were 10, Yes 10 employees standing by a roped off entrance telling people it would not be opened until next week. HIs frustration was how many cm's does it take to tell you what a rope and sign would? He stated that is just poor management there. I agreed with him although it did not bug me as bad as it did him. He still talks about it. lol

I just kept thinking how many of those cm's could have been dressed as characters and roaming the park!
