Cut out work being done on Castle Wall Turrets (Sun, Sept 2nd)

It's a long shot, but maybe it's to allow projections on the back of the castle (for the replacement for MM&Y) so that goes all around the castle. Or maybe they're just "future proofing" it to allow for projectors, lights etc. in the future. Or probably neither!

Speakers for area or show music would be my guess.

Pretty crazy that they knocked out the windows on Eric's castle though.

Actually looking at some of the earlier pictures is appears that the windows were cut out. You can see it in this image. Wonder if they are actually removing the windows for some reason.

Look carefully and you can see that they are moving the windows to the left of the towers

They're going to have to pry off the cut "bricks" or tiles as if they try to cut other tiles to fit you'll always have a line, or at least a mismatched tile. This side of the castle is going to look kinda boring if they just patch over the hole. Maybe they'll add a blacony or something. Gotta say its not one of Disney's prettiest castles . . .

I don't get why they even bothered nailing down the waterproof stuff as it could get damaged when they start prying off tiles? Maybe this is just temporary? I mean to make it look good . . . they're going to have to pop off every single cut tile and retile it anyway I would guess.

I'm thinking that most of the rust spots & seagul poop is actually where the scaffolding steel was cut when it was removed. They built this kinda like everest in regard to the rockwork. I bet they will go back right before opening & do a final paint touch up....

If I recall correctly, I do not believe those are individual tiles that were attached. I believe it was sculpted concrete shaped to look like stone tiles. It will be very easy for them to cover over that cut and match it to the rest of the castle.

Mice Age just posted a new photo update, and here's a new detail we hadn't seen before.
I love that they used squirrels from Snow White on the castle walls instead of the birds/mice from Cinderella like they have on the castle. It's a nice transition from one area to another. It matches both

You can see the weatherproofing layer in one of the picture, it is kinda wrapped funny around the edges and it makes it look like a chain saw was taken to it. Then they coated it for eventually attachment of the fiberglass brick facade.

I think that the most amazing thing was that the windows in Eric's castle were totally cut out to reveal . . . just a wall!

Wow . . . they built a structure like Eric's castle and nobody thought to put in a real window so that they could put a light behind it to lit up it up at night? Its not like this would cost alot, maybe $1 dollar in electricity per year for an LED bulb, plus the cost of a window. They already spent millions . . . while not spend a couple thousand to install real windows with lights behind them?

Certainly, the small little BoG castle will have little lights in the windows for night time, can't help but think that nobody really thought out the aesthetics of Mermaid when it comes to night time. It would be a real shame if they don't just installed some stained glass windows and light them up from behind with a simple bulb on a timer, here's what it looked like before:

At least they got the seagull poop and the rust oozing over the cement bricks. Needless to say, Eric's castle didn't have these gritty details in the film.

I don't get why they didn't just make Eric's castle maybe two times bigger and put a restaurant in it, or maybe even just a walkthrough display or gift shop, or even enough room for Eric and Ariel to wave from the balcony. It's the details that make Disneyland special, and I wish they add some of these special details more often to MK.

actually there was a light installed behind the windows before they were cut out... i have a photo of it i saved because i was excited to see that detail as i love disney at night....

I dont think there is anyway Disney could have missed how important this is, I would think everything would look thrown together if they just threw lights up on it at night. Once you get the impression of people actually being inside the castles at night, I think it will basically bring them to life and look spectacular.

I can't believe you were able to spot that detail, pretty impressive.

Wow, thanks for the picture!

But supposing there is room inside of this structure, why not plaster this approximate 8 foot x 8 foot room with digital print outs of the inside of a castle, and then add a scaled down chandelier? This is one of the big rooms in the castle, and I'm not sure that a little torch-like sconce will do the trick, though of course I haven't seen what the light tests at night look like.

All that work just to scoot the window to the left? I guess It will look nice centered on that negative wall space and it won't be concealed by the columns on the balcony. I guess we'll wait and see their reasoning.
