Yes
The worlds most obnoxious website posted on FB that custom cakes are going away from the MK - anything behind this rumor?

Well that would suck. I have never done a custom cake at MK but have at a resort. While yes its pricey it was worth it for my grandmas birthday.

So it appears they have reached critical mass of creativity and are now even eliminating amenities that turn a profit.

I joke, I joke,.. I have no idea if they make money on custom cakes.
Based on the size and cost, I'd have to believe they're making money, but I'd hate to see this go. We just did one this past July for our daughter at BoG. Even at the high price, the CM's were great and so was the cake.

I would guess that as the cakes are made outside of the park and brought in maybe with the MK restaurants being busier they couldn't handle the demand?

MK cakes are made by the Contemporary bakery.

Rumor is eventually MK is getting their own cake team eventually but no idea when...

Cake Team sounds like a great (by that I mean super hokey) reality tv show.

"The team arrives at the restaurant only to realize that they put the wrong princess on the cake. Facing a crying child the team jumps into action to redesign the cake in 4.5 minutes. (complete with countdown clock and shots of the child becoming impatient)" This stuff writes itself!

Don't forget shots of parents crying and demanding compensation in the form of free lodging, fastpasses, etc

this seems like a silly change

whatever happened to customer service.

and im not sure what downside there is to this from a profit standpoint since i'm sure they made people pre-pay for the cakes

if they really cared about customer service they could do like free birthday cupcakes for the birthday person, though I know people ruin stuff like that by lying about their birthday.

one possible purely speculative reason for stopping this would be either "too much demand" though that you'd think would be something that they could fix rather easily.

The other possibility could be customer complaints since they require ordering over the phone so people cant see what they are getting before hand.

Or people maybe weren't showing up to pick them up and then filing chargebacks with their credit card companies.

I'm sure we will never know the real reason, though I'm sure there has to be one since if this was popular I'd think they'd find a way to fix it rather than ending it.

I do know though that the bakery department is notoriously hard to get ahold of at least it was several years ago when my mom wanted to do a special cake for my sisters birthday.

When i ordered a cake in July, I had to contact the MK cake department which I thought was odd as I know the resort bakeries usually handled them. We're they simply ordering it from the Contemporary?

I will say that they were great to work with and I did it entirely through email which allowed me to see sample pictures and ask questions. The only thing over the phone was the credit card hold.

I've never heard of this before.

That's hilarious!

Check with Amorette's in Disney Springs...they were supposed to be implementing a delivery system for their cakes in the resorts.
